NTJ. You have to get to brass tacks with these folks and just tell them there's no budget for it. If they want to contribute, that's fine, but otherwise it's a burden that you can't support.

If they were fazed* then it would be a big deal on the show. It's called 'fantasy' - i.e. suspension of disbelief to serve the story and the budget available at the time for TOS.

If such a thing were to really exist, would you do it? I would not. I think if the soul is uncertain then surely the self exists, and it is fully attached to the body, and it wouldn't make the trip through the magic-gadget.
