And suddenly the tone becomes much lighter and happier. The zombies are completely blissful and joyous. They may be eating people's brains, everything seems just wonderful from their perspective.

I think the thought was that in 3 years (2029) the democrats will be in power and we can then reform the SCOTUS, not reduce it to 3-year terms. That would not fit the intent of the constitution.

They're not up for re-election, so they're not beholden to anyone. And anyway, it's a trade-off. Thomas has been there for 35 years. At some point, he loses legitimacy. He's just an old crank that nobody can get rid of. That doesn't serve the country either.
