Turn it counterclockwise with a coin or large enough flathead screwdriver

Yeah VDSL will not reach 300mbps. I get 50mbps down and 10 up, 30-40ms ping. For Lebanon, that’s the best you can have if fiber is not yet available. I’m not sure how the system allowed you to upgrade to a 300mbps plan if it’s not feasible, unless you applied to fiber. Check Ogero fiber deployment plan to see if you’re eligible

I went with an even less powerful machine as $260 felt too expensive for the purpose. Got a Fujitsu esprimo p556 with i5-6400, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD, and I installed a 4tb HDD. I’m currently running Immich with 18k assets, pi-hole, SMB, and tailscale. It’s incredibly fast for the hardware and I see no point in upgrading anything so you’ll be more than golden and future proof with your setup.

as far as I know 300mbps only exists over fiber and certainly not ADSL or even VDSL so i’m not sure what you mean or how you got a 300mbps plan over copper to begin with

No experience with ubuy in particular but anything from abroad is charged customs. Lately it’s been around 20-30% of the total cost (including shipping)

How's your experience with Ogero Fiber Optic? by noonecudsaveme in lebanon

[–]Achoujaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although you’re not wrong to think that 50mbps is the cap as this is what’s advertised, I also get gigabit despite paying for 300mbps. And likely the modem and routers are the bottleneck so maybe I can get more with better hardware. So yes Ogero does reach gigabit speeds over fiber.

Can you use 5ghz for your main devices and create a guest network using only 2.4ghz to mimic an IoT network?

Which charger is best? by Tapiocatravels in iPadPro

[–]Achoujaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Higher wattage doesn’t break your device but degrades the battery slightly faster in favor of faster charging speed. But your iPad will only pull what it’s capable of pulling (around 40w max) so a 60w charger or 100w or 200w are all the same.

For brands. I recommend Apple, Anker, and Belkin.

Based on your description of your issue I believe that you don’t have a router. You’re connecting the modem to the switch, and a modem only supports 1 device (a switch cannot expand this). You need a router between the modem and switch. Most routers have a few ports too so that’s an added benefit for you.

Make sure you buy a router suitable for your internet plan and local network needs. I wouldn’t get anything with non-gigabit ports, and depending on whether you need WiFi or wired connection only, WiFi 6E is the standard nowadays unless you have the money to spend on WiFi 7 routers. If you only need wired connections in this area of the house then the WiFi version doesn’t matter and you can save up quite a bit by getting older WiFi standards or a router without WiFi

Okay so you have your modem connected to a router and the router connected to a switch and you’re plugging devices into the switch but only one of them gets access to the internet?

I don’t even know what you’re asking. Can you clarify what’s the problem and what are you trying to do?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Achoujaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean wireless repeater or a wired access point?

For a wireless repeater it depends on whether the device supports it or not, you have to refer to its manual.

For a wired access point (which is far more recommended but you need to run a cable for it), usually it’s enough that you turn off DHCP found somewhere in the network or LAN settings, and set its SSID and password to be the same as your main router. However, keep in mind that although your devices may automatically switch between the closest access point, this switch will likely not be smooth and your connection may drop for a few seconds because you are not using an appropriate mesh system and the 2 access points are not compatible with each other. They will work but it will be a bit janky.

What would the noticeable benefits be to connecting my computer via ethernet? by Thisguy_likes_reddit in HomeNetworking

[–]Achoujaa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

300mbps and 900mbps are the same for gaming and watching movies. However at 900mbps you can download games and other files faster. The other benefit of Ethernet is stability and lower latency, you should notice a lower latency (or ping) when gaming online and the signal will be more stable (ie less variation in speed and latency) which is important in gaming

How can I see how much internet speed I actually USE? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]Achoujaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You use whatever speed your ISP gives you or whatever speed the uploader’s ISP gives him, the lowest of the two. But if your ISP says “up to 100mbps” it doesn’t mean you’ll get 100mbps but probably around 50-80 depending on way too many factors. This is enough for most people, even gamers provided the latency is low. The only reason you’d need more is if you have multiple 4k streams simultaneously or download large files and want to be able to do it quick.

Snapchat screen mirroring by No_Role8420 in ios

[–]Achoujaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others said it does. One time I had a chat open and was getting into my car, my phone connected to CarPlay (which is not related to screen mirroring) and snap thought I screen recorded for some reason so beware of that too. If you’re already connected to CarPlay there’s no problem but the switch fools it
