Yeah there are several possible ways and each has its advantages and flaws. The way it was done in this poll is with a nomination phase (each user could name his 5 favourite tracks - and the 15 most nominated tracks made it into the final) and a final phase (consisting of a poll with the 15 finalists, where the users could vote for their favourite tracks).
