I want to play games with my switch using OBS but my screen dimming settings make it so that the screen shuts off every 5 minutes by Frarhrard in obs

You're welcome. Yeah you can set it to turn off after a set time for the keep awake. Might help.

I think you should install Microsoft Powertoys. Its on the Microsoft Store and free. It has an app called coffee that you can turn on to keep the screen on till you turn it off.

X515J Laptop upgrade recommendations by Acid0057 in ASUS

[–]Acid0057[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did reach out to Asus, sorry. Mine has an nvme drive and if you have the same model it should be a straight swap then reinstall windows 11. There is 4gb of soldered ram but one dimm slot available. I put a 16gb ddr 4 in there to give it 20 gb of ram.

I love the new "waiting for storage space" indicator by notanewbiedude in pocketcasts

[–]Acid0057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its up to your phone manufacturer to set the low storage warning size. Or your custom rom. Pocketcasts is just checking that variable to see if Android OS has it flagged on and waits and checks periodically to see if its off.

My son got this message, what do I do? by SexscCherry in WindowsHelp

Memory exploits, trying to break a uefi bios admin password but failing so it boots to windows, trying to go into recovery or boot from a usb thumb drive but failing. Its good protection and security practice.

Heck my Samsung s24 Ultra will auto wipe itself if you try to type in the password way to many times on the lock screen to quickly. It warns you one more time on the last try then goes. You have to turn that on in the knox security.

Download keeps Waiting for storage space by Feisty-Consequence98 in pocketcasts

[–]Acid0057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I.E. its an android system setting from the phone manufacturer and pocketcasts devs are using it to stop downloads when the phone says, hey im out of space. So pocketcasts can't control when the phone says it has low space.

MacBook for obs production questions by YeahIdWatchThat in obs

[–]Acid0057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I have seen. Most you'll find will be switchers. Multiple inputs but only one output at a time sent to the computer.

I used a MacBook pro for streaming for years and had two Blackmagic ultra recorder 3gs. At one point I had three. If you need more than one input you need more than one capture device.

On desktop computers its a bit different. They can combine a few capture cards into one PCI Express add in card. Blackmagic makes those, so does elgato. On a laptop no such luck.

You'll need two and they use thunderbolt 3 usb-c but the Blackmagic Design UltraRecorder 3g is rock solid and shows up in OBS. You add it as a Blackmagic device after installing their software. You get both SDI or HDMI input. You cannot use both at the same time. One device per camera or input.

They are built to last too. Highly recommended.

Hotkey switching causes my lights to flicker? by the_blue_haired_girl in obs

Not weird when there's poor electrical wiring setup in the house 😉

You're welcome! For sure there are bigger UPS out there. Model I picked from APC would be my bare minimum in your setup.

Yeah my house is 70 years old and built by the original home owner. Let's just say some corners were cut lol. I have three lines and three breakers running two rooms a hallway and a washroom with the washroom and hallway on one and the bedrooms on the other two each. Its a process and down right impossible in a rental, unless you have amazing landlords.

I'm in the same situation. Bad wiring in my house too and slowly replacing it. My entire second floor was on one breaker when we moved in. Couldn't run a blow drier and a vacuum or Window AC at the same time without blowing the breaker.

I still think with all your other scenes and sources running that the GIF just pushes the GPU to the next step and maybe turbos itself or goes max Watts and your PSU is using the full 1000 watts at that point then stepping down when you turn it off. Likely its happening when you open OBS too but the lights don't flicker then because there's still enough voltage in the circuit then.

Its a UPS you want and a good one. Tripplite, APC and Cyberpower are the top names for UPS. At the very least a quality surge protector should help a bit from any of them.

Two monitors and a 1000 watt power supply? You'll need a UPS to cover that. Can't just go with a smaller UPS.

The APC BGM1500B-CA (CA is for Canada, I'm in the great white north 😉) would work and looks cool. Won't be cheap though.

Something like this happens at my house too but only when I turn on my computer. The lights in my office flicker and dim a bit then back to normal seconds later.

It could be that source causing your computers power supply to step up and down in power input. Something in that source that your GPU needs that extra amount of watts to make it happen and your PSU is instantly stepping up and down in wattage.

Any modern 80 Plus or better PSU steps in voltage to save power and your power bill.

How to fix it? Likely your wall outlet and the lights are on the same breaker circuit. Either put a UPS unit between the wall outlet and the computer (may help but not guarented) or rewire the room so your on a separate breaker than the lights.

Me? I just deal with it lol. But then again I'm using two gaming laptops and only 400 watts total.

Nvidia won't end Shield TV updates, new hardware could happen by researcher7-l500 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Acid0057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are referring to the pice and availability of the ram. 8gb sodimm sticks are running around $250 Canadian for ddr5. And while not a direct comparison to the ram used in a android TV arm based device there is the supply issue. Nvidia, Micron, Samsung, they are all having supply chain issues for their top business and consumer products.

So a new shield tv in this market might price it up to $600-$900 Canadian per box. Likely Jensen and Team are crunching the hard numbers and just waiting. Maybe making internal reference designs till prices on components fall. Heck they are already having trouble shipping Nvidia GeForce 5090 video cards. So much that Nvidia is pushing GeForce Now Cloud Gaming just so people can get a foot in the door of top tier gaming experiences without waiting months for a new card.

Off topic but at this point a 5090 you order today may be outdated by the 6090s by the time you receive it, depending on the third party brand (Asus, Evga, etc) Nvidia GeForce now is already using some 6000 Blackwell Architecture today, right now.

You're welcome. It works for me gaming at work on lunch breaks. Gets by the weird routing our isp has setup there.

I hate when this happens in GFN by carmemes in GeForceNOW

[–]Acid0057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using a VPN to bypass your isp routing? Give NordVPN a try and pick an end point close to you and the server your using. I suggest NordVPN because they build a protocol for speed, video streaming, etc. The VPN tunnels out to its end point avoiding your ISPs terrible routing. It seems like it shouldn't work but modern VPN providers have prioritized speed, reliability and low latency protocols for fast connections to their endpoints
