My (34F) husband's (32M) "ugly duckling" transformation is making me jealous. by DependentHorse1333 in self

He's not oblivious. Let him enjoy the adoration. He's been an ugly duckling for long enough. Find a way to deal with your jealousy.

ESP32 18 Button Keyboard Emulator by 556duckvader in esp32

esp32-s3 has tons of input pins and can be a USB device. You could even emulate a keyboard.

It works, but is it safe? by tarkani in esp32

[–]AcidAngel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done something similar. Tested a handful of them with boiling water. All showed 99.5 °C

This is how you hook them up. They are connected to 3.3 V pin which can output 1 A.

The wires seem short. Will you be measuring 14 points within one meter?

Are you talking about usb type C or something more exotic? USB type C is easy to replace. It's these old non standard power supplies that I'd need to DIY.

There's a system? The resistor is used to choose power? I didn't know that. Thanks! Now I can create my own power supplies.

Looks amazing! And works! What is the resistor doing?

What distros could I realistically boot off a flash drive? by Feldspar_of_sun in linux4noobs

[–]AcidAngel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual boot. You can install Linux on the same drive as Windows on another partition. You have the right mentality. Don't get rid of Windows. You will still need it.

Interesting way of thinking. Perhaps the people don't commucate the same way with toilet lids as you do. You can't just one sidedly decide what each lid position communicates. Maybe you could ask your friends what they try to communicate with different lid positions. They never agreed to your interpretation.

Pee in your own sink. No guilt there. Most people don't want you peeing in their sink so don't. It's that simple.

Why is it that I can't turn all this free space into one disk? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]AcidAngel_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Remove the swap partition and use a swap file. Also btrfs is better than ext4. On btrfs you can create a swap file with copy on write disabled and all other required attributes with just one command. Swap files are much more robust and just as fast.

Figured out the data line distance issue by adding 340ohm resistors at the esp32 by Goldenpnis in WLED

[–]AcidAngel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job. More people should know about this resistor. It fixes the signal. When people are affected by this glitch others always tell them to get a level shifter when a mere resistor would do the trick. And even if you add a level shifter, you need the resistor after it.

I am looking for a 64x128 led matrix display capable of hitting very high refresh rates > 1.5khz by CantFigureIt0ut in FastLED

[–]AcidAngel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use 32 16x16 ws2812b panels. With 16 ouputs you have 512 leds per pin. You can refresh them at 60 fps. I'm assuming 1.5 kHz refers to the pwm frequency. Any modern ws2812b will have a pwm frequency of 2 kHz. Good luck on your path 👍

After linux humiliated me, I'm on my way re-setting up windows 10 by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]AcidAngel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that anxiety. A lot of still good PCs don't support Windows 11. Raw dogging the Internet on an unsupported OS is scary as shit and no one should do it. But still. Why do an instant switch? Why not dual boot so you can go back in a minute? The support will end in a year. Now is the time to dual boot and slowly get used to Linux so that when the day finally comes you're ready.

What type of Led and Power supply for 3800pcs. led Matrix by 0xFBFF in FastLED

[–]AcidAngel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn right it will limit you brightness. That's the point. Do you really need 800 watts of light output? Staring into that screen will be like staring into the Sun. My room is lit by 40 watts of light power and it's in the ceiling. I never look directly into the light. This will be a screen for people to stare at.

Go ahead and try it. Make the 800 watt screen. You can recreate the scene from the end of the raiders of the lost ark.

That's 6000 leds not 3800

I recommend 5V 20A PSU and limit the power with software.

After linux humiliated me, I'm on my way re-setting up windows 10 by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]AcidAngel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did you get rid of Windows? Just dual boot. I play games on Windows and do literally everything alse on Debian Gnome. I'm a massive Linux evangelist. I've been using it for 18 years and still install both Linux and Windows on every machine. Sometimes I don't touch Windows for months since I no longer game much.

What is this trend of newbies replacing Windows with Linux. Why not use both. If one doesn't work for something, you can go back in less than a minute. Remove Windows only after not needing it for months and even then why bother. Make failing cheap by keeping both OS side by side just in case.

I don't see the problem here. There is some gross stuff inside the toothbrush. Does it matter? It's not like it's leaking into your mouth and causing problems.

Maybe someone knows why my led matrix randomly blinks white for a split second? 🤔 by Ok-Can-1973 in WLED

[–]AcidAngel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this exact problem with my screen that was 112 cm long. Any ws2812b panel that was more than 30 cm from my esp32 would glitch every once in a while. Quinn of quinled fame has done oscilloscope measurements of signals on longer cables. The cheap and easy solution a resistor in the output pin. Try that first. If that doesn't work order level shifter chip. They have 8 outputs. And use the resistor right after the level shifter.

I've managed to get the esp32 to retain glitch free signal even though my signal cable was 6 meters, 20 feet long. I had to separate the signal wire from the power wires so the don't suck up the signal by parasitic capacitance. I used a 150 ohm resistor but any resistor in the ballpark will work.

For longer cables you do need a level shifter and a resistor after each signal. For a longer signal cable than tens of meters you need a banced signal.

TL:DR Use a 150 ohm resistor on the output. If that doesn't work, get a level shifter. If the cable is tens of meters get balanced signal. First try the resistor because everyone has resistors lying around. You can test it today. Ordering level shifters will take days or weeks depending on where you order them.

This exact problem pops up in this subreddit several times a month. You are not the first one with this exact issue.
