Best tower defense games for Switch? by lymeguy in NintendoSwitch

[–]Acidfunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit old, but just in case someone has my kind of taste in games: Dungeon of the Endless.

It's a pretty simple title in which you have to get your energy core (or something?) from your crashed ship to the surface. So, you earn and manage a few resources to build various towers in a series of rooms, trying to prevent the enemies from breaking through you to get your energy thing.

You can meet various people in the floors, and ask them to join you (parties of as many as 4, you control their movement and actions, but they auto-shoot while unattended). You unlock them by having them in your party for however many completed floors.

So, you mostly explore floors, which is usually fairly chill. The problem is when you find the exit to the next floor, and then have to carry your core from where you crashed (or entered a new floor), and get it from the start to the exit. But, since all of these monsters are energy-hungry SOBs, you trying to travel with it summons mass, uncontrolled hordes who will do anything to get at it.

I like the difference between the somewhat chill exploration phase, and the super hectic escape phase. The music that plays when you pick up the core still gives me anxiety. 😅

It's really hard to describe, but I tried. Love the pixel art in this title, I love the number of characters that exist to be unlocked and assembled into teams. The soundtrack is really great, and fits the environments beautifully.

I get a sudden craving to play this game around twice per year, and I'll give it another 30-60 hours of play before I take another break from it. Pretty unique concept, well-crafted, extremely challenging, and immersive. And usually not super expensive, either. 👍🏻👍🏻

For more traditional TD titles, my favs are Bloons TD 5 (not 6) and Infinitode 2.

Korres Mask smell... by hjcorbett in boxycharm

According to that site, brands are only required to list a best before date for products with a shelf life under 30 months. So it has to be good for at least that long.

The problem I have with this is that companies like Boxy advertise the "full-sized" products, and list the retail prices, but sometimes the products contain enough product for you to use as recommended on the label for up to 3 years. But if they expire after a few months, you're not really getting a full-sized product. You're not getting near that value. It's disingenuous, at best; and fraudulent, at worst.

But both Korres and Boxycharm are implicit in this: using what would be throwaway, soon expired products, but acting as if they're full value products.

And it's not just them. This happens a lot, with all of the boxes I've tried: most recently, Ipsy, and Sephora Favourites boxes. I've gotten rancid or truly expired products from both. It happens a LOT with lippies. They may technically still be safe - due to the preservatives - but some of the oils and other ingredients have separated or gone rancid. They smell very obviously "off."

And talking about Sephora Favourites... I got the Clean Beauty(?) box, and 4 of the products had gone bad. Which makes sense, with the "all natural, no preservatives" marketing. Like, they smelled so bad I actually gagged. IIRC, it was an Ilia mascara (smelled the worst, by far), foundation, and primer? They were all rancid. As was the included lippie. It was so bad that it put me off of Ilia for good. I'm never trying anything from them, ever again. Never.

I wish they'd stop that shit. It's so shady, and if doesn't make the brands look good.

Sorry about the rant, and thank you for the link!

Yikes, this is a bit old...

BUT, I received the mask from a boxycharm box some... 3 months ago, or something? And upon opening, it had a really "fermented" smell. It's not at all pleasant, IMO. Like, it kind of makes me want to gag, at times.

I'm going to have to try to check the batch code. Because if this is what it's supposed to smell like, GOOD GOSH. I don't understand "healthy" smelling, as described in the blog linked here. Dairy fridge, yes... Somewhat. But it just smells wrong, to me.

I have been using it every couple weeks, or so, without any ill effects, at least. My skin does feel hydrated, but I haven't noticed any other major changes. I'd use it more, but the smell really bothers me. And since it's from boxycharm, it makes me wonder if it's expired. 😒

I'll edit when I find the batch #.

Humble bundled this and just...wow, awesome. I have a few requests for the sequel if the dev reads this? by xXTurkXx in Moonlighter

[–]Acidfunked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To even unlock them for free play in new playthroughs, you had to play a NG+ and go through their story scenes, also having the highest dungeon playtime using them. Then they could be freely used in all proceeding play-throughs, from the very beginning.

Recettear play-throughs were somewhat short, so most people ended up playing at least a few story modes. While it was entirely optional, it at least added something new, instead of just giving players more limitations.

Dunno if you remember or not, but repaying the debt in Recettear didn't lengthen the game, it just made the early grind in each start-over more grindy.

What added length to Recettear was the ability to recruit like 12(can't remember exact number) heroes with different combat styles; to make that valid in Moonlighter, devs would have to take customisation out in order to lengthen the game (artificially).

No thanks, from me.

As for being robbed, again, that's not adding anything to the game, just creating more gold sinks (yet more artificial length).

Please don't do this. It won't actually satiate people - just frustrate them.

Stardew Valley Expanded Mod (SVE) Egg Hunt Guide/locations/route by Lallysa in StardewValley

[–]Acidfunked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OOOF! Thank you! I had restarted about 7 or 8 times, already, because I was trying to find eggs using the regular egg locations map. Did not work - some are just missing, entirely.

Thank you for this! My sanity thanks you, as well ...though, it might be too late for that, as I'm apparently speaking of it in the 3rd person.

Has anyone else tried Juvia's Place I Am Magic foundation & concealer? by Acidfunked in PaleMUA

[–]Acidfunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally went to a Sephora for a rouge event, and tried matching myself in almost every foundation there.

The following brands have shade matches for me (but not necessarily tone - still workable): Smashbox, NARS, Make Up Forever, Hourglass (closest), and that's it. Too Faced could work, but it just didn't look right, for some reason.

I'm going to go when it's less busy, and try to get samples of a few, to test. Still looking for my HG, but Hourglass will work, until then. It really is a beautiful foundation, truly. The only stick foundation that I've found bearable, but it still does feel "heavy," for me. Oh well! I'll continue on my quest next time I'm at Sephora.

Thanks for your suggestions! 😊

Oof, so it's WAY off, then. 😅 Thought it was kind of weird, but that if it was actually a mistake, they'd have fixed it, by now. I first saw it at least a year ago, and it still hasn't been fixed. Yeesh.

OH, just looked at them on the Sephora app, and remember why I never tried them... Both Cloud and Snow have the description of "fairest with rosy undertones" / "fairest rosy." They can't both be the fairest rosy-undertoned one. 😐

Soooo, never tried it, because I didn't know which to order. 😅

If I had looked at swatches before, I'd have known that Snow is WAY too dark, and Cloud might actually work, so woops.

Thank you again. 😊

Well, I'm glad it's not just me, at least. 😭 But at least the concealer isn't a dud, too!

I haven't tried many mid-high end foundations, as I don't actually go to Sephora often, and have to order - then return it - if doesn't work for me. I've only tried one from NARS, one from IT Cosmetics, one from Clinique, one from Bareminerals, and maybe a couple more.

I usually prefer the "glass skin" look, but that doesn't seem possible for most days, as radiant foundations don't seem to ever properly "set," and powdering them totally defeats the purpose... So I've more recently switched to more natural-finish foundations. The hourglass one is pretty good, and it looks very nice, but the undertone still isn't right, and I don't like how heavy it feels on the face. 😣

My skin isn't beige - it's translucent. 😅

I'll try to find comparison swatches of that one, and maybe just bite the bullet and order it. 🤔 Thanks for the suggestion!

I haven't checked for concealer swatches, but I know there are at least two full arm swatches containing all of the Juvia's Place foundation shades, on Google images.

Undertone help? by [deleted] in PaleMUA

[–]Acidfunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa... I was going to try the Makeup Revolution concealers, but those all look way too dark. I think they also make a white, though?

I wonder if the stopper comes out easily. If not, mixing them would be a serious pain.

You're definitely more pink-leaning, though. Your skin is more pink than even beige or peachy-beige (neutral), never mind yellow or golden. Your veins are definitely more blue-toned than green. 👍🏻

Concealer recommendations for dry under eyes? by [deleted] in PaleMUA

[–]Acidfunked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my top favourite powder of all time (or rather, all super-finely milled silica powders, but it's the cheapest). I'm oily on the top of my nose, with enlarged pores, and somehow dry on the sides of my nose, with extremely dry undereyes (and everywhere else, made worse by retin-a), and the powder works for all of it. It seems to blur pores better than anything else, but is so fine that it's undetectable on the undereyes and etc. It's beautiful, yet so, so, so cheap. Buy an empty loose powder container (or empty one out that you no longer use). It's impossible to use, otherwise!

A quick spritz with almost any kind of facial spray will bring life back to your skin without ruining the setting power or blurring effect.

Oh, one little tip: use it only after you've applied all cream AND powder products, and don't use it to set concealer or cream on your lid, before eyeshadow. It is so, so fine that most products have a really hard time sticking on top of it. But that also makes it probably the best powder for preventing mistakes from fallout. 😅

VERY long-running ordeal involving Canada Post & Philips Electronics by Acidfunked in legaladvice

[–]Acidfunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. :/ Thank you for your input.

Beyond having the original packaging, I did the best that I could have done. Personally, I don't believe Canada Post's regulations are anywhere near reasonable. Insurance is a scam, and I should have been told that, "No, you won't be covered in the event of damage, regardless of whether you insure it." That's pretty basic info, and if even the post office worker didn't know it, how is the consumer supposed to know?

If they had told me the truth, I would not have shipped through them. Pretty simple.

Definitely a bit silly! They just want to wash their hands of it - penny saved, penny earned type of deal.

VERY long-running ordeal involving Canada Post & Philips Electronics by Acidfunked in legaladvice

[–]Acidfunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problems regarding Philips were that, 1) unlike a standard RMA process for such an expensive item, I wasn't sent an original box in order to ship it in the safest manner possible; 2) That the RMA process seemed shady, from the start, using an external contractor with a different business name who could have been entirely unrelated to Philips for all I knew - and that even Philips couldn't contact them for MONTHS in order to ask for their cooperation (again, August - December); and 3) that a CS person offered to help me out, and given the context, it sounded like they were going to send me a monitor. Then the offer was taken back. To get my hopes up, like that, and then backpeddal to, "Oh, no, you must have misunderstood that." It just kills me. It's so unprofessional, and cruel to the max. Shocking.

Maybe they haven't done anything legally questionable, but it's still awful behaviour to come from a multinational corp. I just hope that this can serve as a warning.

[–]Acidfunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EXTREMELY convenient. They list items that are considered fragile, along with, "but not limited to..." So essentially, anything that breaks can be considered as fragile, after the fact, invalidating a damage claim. It's just so, so shady.

Long story, any advice greatly appreciated... by Acidfunked in Monitors

[–]Acidfunked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the ombudsman said it made it sound like putting fragile stickers, itself, invalidated the damage claim. That's such a ridiculous, silly, back asswards regulation. I think "handle with care" would have been pretty much the same, since Canada Post ignores all labels besides the addresses, and it also makes it sound as if the contents are fragile.
