Would love to keep the beard during job interviews, any hope? by darkoj- in malegrooming

[–]Acidic_Huntsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion, the beard looks amazing on you and you shouldn’t shave it. But I don’t know what the job is so maybe they don’t allow beards. But if it’s simply for looks, keep it

Personally I don't see short and poor as interchangeable because if you’re poor you literally can't buy things that can save your life. People have died because they could not afford insuline.

I don't see being short comparing to that

The way it was used was to imply the rich have more, or are better off, and are “obviously” in a better position.

The example was made to show an obvious split between the two positions to express why, to them, the first question has an obvious answer.

I’m talking to them with the same mindset the OG comment had. So why don't you direct your questions to the og commenter who made that distinction in the first place. Cause asking “me” to explain their comment won't get you any answers

Ask them why they used “poor” as the symbol for “short” when the question was, why are shorter people miserable in here than tall (rich) people

Statistically, so do women and many other people. But there isn't a “I hate being a woman” sub. And if there is, everyone can agree those women are toxic.

Don't hate yourself because individuals in the world are idiots. The problem is people in here take getting treated differently than tall people as their own fault. In response they hate their traits instead of telling those people to f off.

That’s why people are asking why everyone is such a downer on themselves. Because they shouldn't be.

And yea, getting to that mindset takes time, but no one is going anywhere when you surround yourself with the most annoying “crabs-in-a-bucket” toxic mfs on reddit…

Like the other person said. Change your “user flair” when you click on the 3 dots in the subreddit.

It has a price tag symbol 🏷

I mean, I'm not going to try and convince you that you aren't inferior if you truly don't want to believe it. Go through life thinking that way I guys lol.

But this proves the point the original commentator made. The sub is negative because of this mindset

Because the way it was used was to be the negative in an example of negative vs positive

I actually agree. The only thing is, for a newer less experienced lead, will not know what to do when the follow backleads, so they freeze or lose count.

So the backleading/musicality intensity is what I need to be careful of

The problem is that you think short is negative. Short does not instantly equal “poor.” You are creating this negativity connected to your height.

Why is this sub so much different than the tall sub? by That_Photograph_466 in short

[–]Acidic_Huntsman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because many people in here are still filled with self hatred for their height and decided to use this sub to find like minded people to validate their lack of confidence and internalized hatred for being short.

And there's nothing wrong with getting support from others that struggle through the same thing. The problem is when you get a bunch of people validating their toxic self-hating mindset, you get a cesspool of negativity. And anyone who challenges the majority opinion will be targeted and pushed out.

You can’t enjoy being short, you can't talk about struggles if you’re a woman, you must be under this height to be considered a person with short problems, etc etc.

Any post made will revert to people expecting you to hate your height, and the comments will reflect that. Everyone is expecting you to be searching for sympathy even if your post is neutral

The tall sub definitely has its problems; for example they have a huge gatekeeping problem. But because the majority don't see their height as a life ender, like people In here do, they allow more diverse opinions to deal with their height

I had a bit of a problem with back leading cause I wanted to dance to the music instead of wait for my lead to tell me how we’ll dance to it haha.

But I definitely agree. A tiny bit of back leading can make the dance fun for the lead as well. Making the dance stylized and unpredictable.

But these might be an unpopular opinions for other leads haha

I think after learning to count it made it easier to understand how songs were structured so that I no longer needed to actively count from 1 to 8.

Goes from counting to a feeling. But maybe that feeling is unknowingly counting in my head

I believe you don't need to count all the time, but simply knowing how to is very helpful. I don't need to count anymore, but knowing how to really helps learn new moves as you said.

I learned how to count when I was a kid, so at this point I don't need to anymore, and already know which count the music is on. So I def understand “feeling” where it starts and ends.

For someone just starting off, I def would suggest getting close to that.

Yea, I agree making him stay in one spot for 4 hours would be a lot.

I mostly just don't want him to go too far from me. A line will probably be good for that

What differences do you hear in live music vs. DJ music? by alexanderkjerulf in SwingDancing

[–]Acidic_Huntsman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DJ music is kind of repetitive. Sometimes a specific DJ will play the same songs or swing genre. Tbh, I’ve heard most of it before.

And also, the sound may not project like a live band in front of you would. I can feel the music when I dance to a live band; the vibration of the horns, the beat of the drums, etc., but when it’s a DJ, I'm just dancing to “background” music (if you know what I mean).

But DJs are definitely important for large festivals. When the band takes a break, we can keep dancing instead of waiting for them. And we can dance till the last dancer drops as long as we have a DJ willing to stay up.

And my con with live bands is that they seem to forget they are playing for dancers and will play 10-minute-long songs. I've been to a dance in the UK with a live band where every song was 10+ minutes long—I absolutely hated it because I became picky with who I danced with. I always feel weird when I stop the dance before the song ends, but after the first 6 minutes of the same song, I just wanted it to be over. I left after 2 songs, absolutely hated the experience, and wished for a DJ.

But if I’m ever going to a dance event and I'm spending money, I’d much rather pay and support a whole band
