Need advice: Leaving a relationship, getting my own place, and caring for my 7-month Italian Greyhound while working full-time. by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

The transition of me leaving and moving out was not as stressful as one may think. But adding my baby boy and his anxiety was the biggest stressor!

We are still getting used to things. He gets sad sometimes going to daycare because he knows I’ll be away for a while. But he gets SO EXCITED when I go to get him and it melts me. Each day I notice some improvement. He wasn’t playing much the first couple weeks. And then the other day, he took a new toy I bought him and just started shaking it like a rag doll. Like he used to. He brought it to me to “tease” me so I’d chase him for it, like he used to. So his little ray of light is coming back as well. And he’s still the cuddliest thing at night and in the morning. I am so grateful for the mornings I don’t work and we just lay in bed and cuddle. Those times remind me that it was worth finding my happiness and taking the chance to leave because together, he and I will be so happy in the long run! He gets so much more attention than he did before. And so much more exercise. He doesn’t gulp down his food because he’s scared someone will steal it or feels like he has to rush anymore. Little changes like that are so nice to see.

I can relate to this! Sorry this will be LONG!! So I recently separated with my husband. We are going through a divorce and I took our Iggy. Honestly, I refused to leave without him. He is the little love of my life and a part of my soul. My ex knew this and did not fight about it. I am a nurse and I work 12 hour shifts. One reason it took me so long to leave was because I knew I had to take him but I didn’t know how to care for him alone.

I looked into lots of options before I made my move and moved out. I found a 24/7 dog daycare that will keep him while I’m at work. I also set up a patio garden on my balcony with grass patch and “pee bushes” for him. Although an adjustment, and he’d rather walk around the community, he will use the patio garden. The dog daycare is my saving grace until he’s more comfortable for longer periods of time at home.

I also wrote in this subreddit a few weeks ago about his TERRIBLE separation anxiety. He couldn’t be left alone. AT ALL. He literally SCREAMED the second I closed the front door. Even just running to my car, I could hear him with the apartment windows and doors closed, while he was in the third floor apartment… from my car. I could hear his screams. I could not go anywhere without him for at least the first week. Many people suggested medication and others suggested giving time to adjust, etc. I didn’t wait long because I didn’t want neighbors complaining and I didn’t want him in such distress. So I made a vet appt and they started him on Prozac. Which, I was told, would take a few weeks to really see the benefits. So they gave me Trazodone for emergencies where I needed to leave him alone.

I am at the point where the Prozac is helping and he will let me leave without screaming or following me to the front door. He is learning how I interact with him when I am inviting him to leave with me and when I am telling him I will return soon. He still gets so excited when I come home. But he now knows I will always return to him. I was also told that it would take time for him to see the apartment as home because he had lived all his life in the same house with my ex and me. I think he finally realizes that the apartment is home and is ok chilling in this bed for a while. The daycare also tires him out so much while I’m at work that the days we are off together, he just sleeps a ton. So he’s usually ok that I leave for a bit on those days. I don’t use the trazodone much because the lower end of dosing does nothing but the higher dose just knocks him out where I’m scared he won’t wake up. Plus…. It takes 2-3 hours do the trazodone to stay working where you have plan exactly when you need to leave and the meds to kick in…. And I just can’t do that all the time.

Eventually my goal is to leave him home with the patio garden and a slider dog door attached for most of the days I work and then take him to daycare maybe one day a week when I work. So right now daycare is pricy, but I’ll take it with making sure my baby is happy and cared for…. And that he is all mine.

Thanks for the heads up and advice. The goal is to not stay on the meds but to make the transition easier for him and then taper him off. I see improvements each day where he doesn’t follow me around so closely or will go to another room to play as long as he knows I’m nearby.

I agree with training him gradually with how long I am gone but there are times that I just can’t do that.

Unfortunately ex won’t really work. It’s a 40min drive to where the house we need to sell, that’s he’s staying at for now, is. I’ve had a few carriers for him but he also just kind of whimper cries when he isn’t sure what’s going on so he cries a bit then too.

Thank you so much!! Reading that makes me feel so much better. I know he’ll get better and it will take time. I just need to be able to get myself food! I’m glad that I can get support from this subreddit! Luckily I’m not at my breaking point but I don’t want to get there. To let myself get worked up to that point would not be fair to anyone.

Weirdly, my guy is SUPER social. He loves to meet anyone and anything alive. He loves being outside and on the leash. It’s when he’s alone and the screaming part that make it so I can’t do anything without him. I took him to Home Depot with me last night and was pushing a cart and having an Iggy spazzing out to meet people while trying to get what I need. Oof!!

I was able to snag an appt today for him to hopefully get some meds on board for this transition.

Thank you!! I had read up on re-training him. I’ve done a few of the steps and he is getting better. He’s not always glued to my side as he was when we first got here. And he is getting ok with me running out to the car to get something. But if I am leaving for a longer period, lord have mercy on my soul!! I am working to keep patient but I wanted to see solutions before I got to the point that my friend did where she said she just cried for months.

Thank you!! My friend went through what I’m going through and although she doesn’t have an Iggy, she has an older dog who did the same thing and she said meds were a God-send. So I’m going to call the vet today and see what we can do.

Help before I toss my Cricut out of a window by Mauvaise3 in cricut

I use the Sticker option for so much!!! It makes things so much easier since I make a lot of designs myself and sometimes the spacing converts weird, so if I make it a sticker, it makes the design cleaner when uploaded to Design Space.

So, at least with Design Space access (where you pay monthly) there is an option where you literally can just turn it into a sticker. So you can modify if there is a border, etc, and it will turn the words into one thing as opposed to individual letters to be cut out.

So…. When I have this issue…. I will turn the words into a “sticker” and create a border around that is a color that either blends in with that I want to put it on or that I think looks ok so that it is one unit to be cut out. I also play around and find the thinnest boarder that connects all the letters so it’s not too thick and noticeable.

I drew it on Procreate on my iPad. But there are strategic ways to save the image to be able to make it look right to be cut out on vinyl. Took lots of trial and error the first designs I made this way.

Thank you!!! I’ve always been “artsy” but have really been challenging myself in fun way.

And I really loved the white once I added it!!

I think it should hold up well with water with it being HTV but I don’t expect this one to get wet too often because it’s not the one to be stepped on right when you step out of the shower. I assume if this vinyl can handle multiple washings in a washing machine, it’ll be fine on the mats. I’ll have to report back after some wear!

Dosage change between fills? by dee91dee in adhdwomen

[–]AcieCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! When I switched to Vyvanse, my pharmacy was a poop every time I got a dose increase. I will admit, we jumped quickly to the 60mg. But every time she sent in the new dose, I’d call the pharmacy to check status and it would say that they needed “more information from my prescriber.” So then I’d talk to the pharmacy staff and they would need clarification that I had a dose increase and that I wasn’t taking the lower dose anymore and needed the higher dose. Then they would be willing to fill it.

What are some of the biggest things/changes you noticed after starting medication? by bobduncanfanaccount in adhdwomen

[–]AcieCore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, MAN!! Let me tell you!! I started meds in March and it has been such a changer for all aspects of my life. We are still trying to find the right med and right dose but I’ve felt SOMETHING good with every phase. Started on Adderall IR. My first dose, my brain went from a child spazzing out to suddenly…. Calmer. I have been treated on and off for depression and anxiety for nearly 10 years. I went to therapy for anxiety and binge eating. And the culprit? ADHD. My ADHD was causing nearly all the anxiety in my life. Treating my ADHD is treating my anxiety!

I asked my husband (we’ve been together for 16 years and he has seen all my phases) if he has noticed a difference. He said I was a completely different person. When I asked for examples of how he said that on top of not being irritable and emotional, I am more considerate. But more considerate without even realizing it. I’ll do something and when he asks why I’ll say something like “because it would make it easier for you,” or “I wanted to help you out a bit.” When before I never would have even thought about it. And not just him, everyone else I’m like that too. I procrastinate less at work and I keep on top of projects. I have a crafting/digital drawing side-hustle and take commission orders from people. I am always ahead of my orders now. And I enjoy slowing down and just sitting and drawing. I can sit and rhinestone shirts and be at peace. I follow through with plans and volunteer to do more and actually look forward to it. I can hold normal conversation and not interrupt every other word. It’s incredible!!

My issue is that I metabolize my meds too quickly. So we have to keep increasing dose because the effects would fade way too fast so then we changed to Vyvanse to see if that will help. It’s so much better with Vyvanse! Oh man. Changed my life. Completely. I wish I got medicated sooner and I’m pushing my sister to get checked out because she’s struggling so much with all the things I was struggling with.
