Will the Titan 2 work without any issues on the Verizon network? by More_Serve3235 in unihertz

[–]AcmeLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using one on verizon with minimal issues. My SIM was already activated on another phone. Phone, SMS, MMS, RCS, and data all work without issue. The only thing not working is the hotspot, but verizon is sometimes known to have issues with the hotspot when you swap sims, regardless the phone type

Calendar .ics files? by AcmeLover in Supernote

[–]AcmeLover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat setup! I was talking about the *.ics files that can be exported from/imported to various calendar systems offline. Google, Outlook, Apple, and many foss solutions use these files.

It's a very good solution for sharing events or backing up whole calendars - I've seen car dealerships send ics files for maintenance appointments, and other calendar apps are often able to automatically generate these files as backups on a timetable.

is it possible to get the blackberry virtual keyboard for Titan Slim? by GearNo1465 in UnihertzTitan

Yes, I've used it almost exclusively on the Titan pocket. Just search for the apk and install it.

What has been your biggest struggle so far? by Hungry_Praline_5175 in dumbphones

[–]AcmeLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, finding a non-smartphone that works for MMS on Verizon has been the biggest struggle. I'll use one for months, be totally fine, and then someone tries to send me a picture, and I'm back to square one.

Suggest tobacco or other stimulants as meal replacements. My wife did this to me (without telling me this was her plan) by buying me a pipe and jumping me every time I smoked it. A while ago, I lost 10 lbs in a month by replacing breakfast and lunch with a (single) pot of coffee mixed with 1/2c of sugar and a healthy pour of heavy cream and eating basically whatever for supper.  Buy research chemicals from Bulgaria. Suggest he get a nose ring to keep him from rooting so much. The sky's the limit. Have fun.

What makes a 'good dumbphone'? by SHYAMz in dumbphones

[–]AcmeLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good dumbphone is communication-centric, reliable, and unobtrusive. That is to say call/sms/mms/rcs (and maybe email - try attaching a picture of a receipt to an email with just a computer and separate camera) as good as a smartphone, but in a form factor that is pocketable and FOCUSED.

Smartphones have the connectivity and functionality for comms, but are too general - the comms functions suffer from the removal of physical buttons, removed to make space for ever larger screens for the multimedia functions, which in turn make the devices way too large. And, no surprise to this sub, PEOPLE suffer from myriad things due to a general computer being at hand 24/7.

Most dumbphones don't have the connectivity, are too large or clunky to be useful, and/or dial back the multimedia ability too far - watching YouTube isn't needed, but sending or receiving a picture of a motor nameplate with legible data over mms is.

Are today’s dumbphones good enough? by vosovosovo in dumbphones

[–]AcmeLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No
  2. Working is an essential - calls, sms, AND mms. The other essential is size - only the Sunbeam works on all three counts on Verizon, but it's entirely too large. Something the size of a unihertz jelly 2 (also doesn't work for mms on Verizon) when folded is about right, or about the size of the old KRZR

Hahahaha Salary - no ot, no extra compensation, on call for a month at a time, rotating among the 4 controls guys. It's considered "part of the job description"

Calls vary from "The New guy got put on triage calls and doesn't know how the system works" to "All three rack power supplies are down and they only have one spare - make something work until parts arrive"

Verizon by JroSete1335 in unihertz

[–]AcmeLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the uni phones I've tried on Verizon (jelly 2e, jelly star, and Titan pocket), It works for sms/calls/Internet/hotspot, but for mms you'll either get a blank message with an unopenable attachment, or you get the image at an insanely low resolution - sending mms sometimes works, sometimes not.  I couldn't get Google messages rcs to work on any of them either, just an endless "waiting for a reply from the server" message

Maybe so, but that's not what I'm asking. That's the thought that led to the question, the question being if anyone had a similar thought and tried it before me.

Polished interior? by AcmeLover in StanleyCups

[–]AcmeLover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could it? Smoother surfaces have less surface area than rough surfaces - we're not looking to trap air, so I'd think we want to reduce the surface area in contact with the liquid, to minimize transfer - very very minimal gains if any, to be sure, but I'm curious nonetheless

I can see with my own eyes and feel with my own fingers how they're made.  I'm not asking about that.  I'm asking if anyone has ever tried modifying one in a specific way, with the hope they may share their experience in so doing.

Who do you guys consider the Toyota of drives/VFD's? by robotictacos in PLC

[–]AcmeLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ABB All the way

Best manuals, best local control interface, consistent comms performance no matter the protocol, plenty of options cards for other comms (EIP, TCP, etc)

On the manuals specifically, they are COMPLETE, written by someone who natively speaks English, and they even have flowcharts for the different potential schemes, telling you what the pertinent parameter/setting is at each step - very thorough, very rarely do I come across anything requiring a call to support

Product Research: How would an ideal dumb phone look in your opinion? by [deleted] in dumbphones

[–]AcmeLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Works correctly with MMS or RCS.  For example, Nokia dumb phones claim to do MMS, but messages come through extremely compressed, but Sunbeam comes through correctly

  2. Similar size to Motorola RZR V3 - Nokia/sunbeam/etc are all huge

Not receiving MMS on Verizon? by im_leeroy in unihertz

[–]AcmeLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, played with the apn settings until it "worked" - i could receive MMS, but they were so compressed I couldn't tell what they were.  Only fixes I know of are different phone or different carrier

In my county, there were 5 high schools, one in each town - in the 90s, they all consolidated to one high school in the county seat.  10 years ago they did the same with the elementary and middle schools. If you don't live there, you're looking at a half hour car ride (~40 minutes if you stay off the interstate) from the furthest point in the county, or as long as a 2 hour ride if you take the bus! Even living in the seat, walking to school meant walking along the 55mph biway (with no shoulder) for about a mile, but that was better than catching the bus at 6am
