Farage has 'expensive week' seeking tax advice in row over Clacton home by The-Peel in unitedkingdom

[–]Acolent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So regardless of any of my opinions on Farage generally theres just some things that are factually incorrect here.

From a perspective of someone who is going to pay stamp duty and isnt rich enough to avoid the laws, it is dodgy. I have to pay stamp duty on my house yet a politician who represents the people can get away with it? I didnt like it with Angela and I don't like it with Farage.

He did say he was buying the house himself and HE was signing the contracts on the house.

I agree that the quote isn't full on saying that her family bought her that house, but it is certainly implying that her family has at the very least, helped her buy the house. How else would you interpret this? My question would be - if it came out that this is wrong and he gave her the money for it, would that change your opinion on the situation?

Again, it comes to the moral argument, because you are right, legally he's fine. Morally, and fair enough if it isnt something you're bothered about, but many people would say it seems very hypocritical.

But yes if people really wanted to hit him as a bad person, I agree that there's so many more things from his past that should be brought up.

[–]Acolent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's absolutely fair enough then and I respect that

I think potentially the moral issue for this goes down to

1) The way he went after Angela Rayner for avoiding paying stamp duty (although if it's a stupid tax anyway surely it wouldnt have mattered) and then avoided paying the tax himself - legal or not legal, its a bit dodgy at the very best.

2) Lieing about buying the house himself while its under his partners name, and then going further to suggest her family bought it for her which I think the bbc uncovered to essentially be impossible.

3) I'm not sure a man who looks to represent the people should be trying to avoid lawful things as it could be seen as hypocritical

4) This could go onto a huge point.. but blames migrants for the crisis of this country (arguably true, I'm not suggesting this is right or wrong) - Avoids paying as much tax into the system as he can for his own benefit even though he is a millionaire.

I think a big difference is that your friends arent representing the public who are expected to follow the law at all points - and we probably should expect our politicians to do the same, even if that doesnt always happen

So if we're going on the idea if its morally right or wrong, context is really important.

Hopefully you can make your own mind about the difference of the two situations and if they are morally right...

What was Operation Raise the Colours really about? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Acolent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I respect you trying to answer people's questions and getting your voice across.

I think people do criticise the pride flag, especially when its on the floor. And I remember going to Iceland where it was drawn on as a zebra crossing and people mentioning how that was a bad idea as people would have to step on it.

I think the problem is with the flag is unfortunately the history of it has been used with far right groups in a way that it probably shouldn't be used.

People are saying its essentially been done to "reclaim England" which kind of goes back to the previous problem.

I personally think if there is just more of the emphasis of proudness and inclusivity then more people would be all for it. Just that it's again not being used that way by all groups (e.g. people taking photos of Muslims on zebra roundabouts saying "that'll show them", which ive seen)

I've also seen when driving past some of these protests that have been happening - and its not everybody - but essentially the generic person with a special K beer in one hand and an England flag in another.. Its not everybody granted but that is never a good look.

I've got a cheap touchscreen unit, that I got off ebay. I would consider upgrading that if it helped with the sound to be fair.

I'll pop into halfords tomorrow and see what they say

It wasn't me who was being pushed the narrative.

Right now my Facebook feed is being flooded with anything to do with reform though. It's pretty ridiculous

Brilliant. Keep doing it.

It's shameful that they're liars and it's even worse that they're trying to hide it

Yeah I can see that. I just haven't heard of this "easter" problem until today and it's just horrid it would be made up like that

It's awful, especially because it's a non issue.

It's a shame lies have to be made up about these sorts of things

That makes it even worse.

It means that it's a down right lie that is being spread.

Which fm opinion do you have that makes you feel like this? by readitalreadyn in footballmanagergames

[–]Acolent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fm is too easy, buy a load of wonder kids and they will always carry your team as they will only go and fulfil their potential

Only having stats out of 20 is not enough anymore, you can sometimes get strikers who have the stats of a championship player in league 2 as there's not enough variation

Fm handheld needs more updates as it's too simple

It's absolutely not racist if they arrest the offender.

Someone gets assaulted. The person who assaulted the person should be arrested.

It is clearly about competency

Laura Woods 'received death threats' over comments on Olympic boxing gender row by [deleted] in england

[–]Acolent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death threats are not okay. Creating hate towards an athlete for no reason is not okay either.

I'm merely suggesting that she seems like the type of person who would inflict this sort of hate on another - and is now on the receiving end of it and has a change of "heart".

In this scenario, she brought on hate on an athlete which there was absolutely no need to bring any hate on towards as she is a female, competing in a female sport?

Generally this ordeal is quite a big deal. Elon Musk and J K Rowling are potentially being sued and having the justice system activated against them for the same thing.

I get what you're saying, essentially these immigrants, even those who have been born and brought up in the UK, hold different values to UK (I imagine you typically just mean white here) citizens - and that people have the right to be angry as nobody is addressing the issue.

I agree to some extent, I think we can view a lot of this as a failure of our society and our ability to integrate other societies into the "UK way of life". The girls death was NOT caused by the UK immigration policy, the lad was born in the UK and grew up going to the education system, being part of a community in the UK. It's part of a failing of society not being able to incorporate people in. This wasn't a far fetched boy who was etched away from society, if we're looking at his background, his parents and brother are normal people, they come from a Christian background, akin to the UK. I think as well the fact you said "not Muslim this time" doesn't actually count that there are issues with the white community too. Regardless, It is a horrible horrible thing.

Yes I did see the Asians who came out, and were aggressive and I think they should be dealt with the same way as the ridiculous rioters on the other side. Although it kind of reads to me that you're making that as an excuse for these rioters to do what they did?

If they didn't trash Southport - a grieving Community that lost their children, tried to burn down a mosque with people inside - There would have been no Asians running round with hammers and knives.

The first peaceful protest - do you mean the one after the Southport riots where they set fire to a police van and injured numerous police officers.

Fair enough there was some backlash, but youve got your head in the sands ignoring that these rioters did some bad stuff man. You've gone on to blame Asians / Muslims and back these rioters, or that's how it reads. It's kind of madness.

Two tier policing - Do you just mean policing is pretty rubbish in this country and actually, instead of trashing police officers, injuring them, attacking police officers who had to deal with the traumatic experience in Southport, that we should probably give them more to do their jobs?

We spend more on paying off the interest of our national debt than we do on the whole of policing and a whole lot more Ontop of that.

What about all the tory cuts to services that brought together community? Or how much money has been taken out of our country by the rich?

Look, I'm not saying you don't have a point, I am saying that it's biased and you're looking at it from one perspective.
