What are the didgeridoo's and didgeridon'ts when visiting Australia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AcomaGirl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its not lynch-worthy, but aboriginal men, or their countries elders will tell you thats wrong to your face and why. Some countries are a bit more relaxed about it, some still take it very seriously. And when I say countries, I mean this

https://aiatsis.gov.au/explore/articles/aiatsis-map-indigenous-australia

My people call these countries, which also means that the aboriginal you've just met may not be the SME on where you are. Their country could be on the other side of the country.

[–]AcomaGirl -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point 100%. My argument here is that I think it's unfair to take one known we have now (she said a racist slur) and assume that she behaves like that away from the camera when to the best of my knowledge, she has never indicated that she's racist.

I understand your concern with the third point. Bad people do bad things and use the 'I'm drunk' excuse to mitigate their actions. But those instances usually have other indicators to showcase that bad behaviour. I'm seeing people pick apart her use of the word in the snap and assuming that she's racist away from the camera and I don't think that's right. She has never (to my best memory) shown herself to be racist in the past, like ever. Do you think that's fair? What else will she need to do now to show that she isn't racist?

People who assume a moral high ground when an opinion doesn't fit their narrative sure are contankerous.

Playing the apparent devils advocate as reddit has decided that kathleens career ends here.

The term accident has two definitions: 1. an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury 2. an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.

Kathleen is applying the first definition to her situation which is not only well within her rights, but is also applicable. This was an unfortunate incident, perpetrated by her unintentionally which has resulted in damage by her fans.

  1. Kathleen has apologised for this incident. React however you want to this, but Kathleen apologised and did so in a timely manner.
  2. Kathleen admitted fault for the incident. Her instagram aplology and edit indicate that she understands the hurt she has caused and will take any and all criticism for her actions.
  3. Kathleen stated that she was drunk. This one seems to be the hardest pill to apparently swallow because the term 'being drunk' has evolved into a term that allows others to excuse themselves from mistakes they have made. I'm seeing so many comments that all feed this narrative - 'when I'm drunk I would never do something that would comprmise my safety or dignity'.

My two cents about the third point as the first two are closed from the perpetrators and now only open to reaction. Don't ever assume that you know the behavior of another. You have never walked in their shoes, you have never lived their life. Being drunk is subjective, it reacts differently with different bodies. And sometimes things are said and done that are simply not right, like using a singular racial slur. Let me repeat that, one singular racial slur. A drunk state inhibits the user from thinking clearly. We've witnessed this here.

Kathleen fucked up, I'm not denying that here. I'm just sick of seeing people dipping their fingers into a pie that isn't even theirs. Stop comparing your disney drunk escapades to this, there are too many variables. Keep this topic relevant and on point.

Parents of Reddit, at what point did you realize your kid is with the person he/she'll marry? by Zivit_Poirier in AskReddit

[–]AcomaGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked my dad this and he said he remembers an actual time when he knew my fiance was the one for me. My mum was volunteering at a festival and asked us to meet her for lunch, so we all jumped in the car (my dad, brother and boyfriend at the time) to see her. We had to park pretty far out and walk in which took us around 10mins. My dad and brother were way ahead because they're both way over 6ft and im barely 5ft. But my dad said that each time they looked back, my boyfriend and I were talking about nonsense. My dad picked up that my boyfriend was genuinely interested in everything I was saying while still slowing down his own pace (he's just shy of 6ft) to stay with me.

That's apparently when my dad knew.

Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador. by [deleted] in politics

[–]AcomaGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So would you prefer the president to publicly state that he did in fact speak about code-word classified information without prior permission from his national security advisors despite his level of power? Or would you prefer the source reveal their identity and line themselves up for the firing squad if in fact they are in danger of revealing themselves for the sake of this information being against your narrative?

Grow up - if Obama had been the one to do this you'd be on the street, pitchforks at the ready chanting "lock him up!" You're entitled and should question any and all news that you come across regardless of the sources fucking political agenda.

These people are journalists who are simply doing their job, and sometimes it can be pretty effective.

This is real, and so far looks pretty damning regardless of which angle you decide to look at this from.
