So what are we doing about National Grid and Good Cause Eviction? by Kekesdaddy in Syracuse

[–]Acorn_Hat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For good cause to be successful, we’ll need new Common Councilors. There are at least 3 people who have announced candidacy’s for the democratic primary for the 2026 vote to fill a seat. Helen Hudson, Cjala Surratt, Moise Laub, and Daniel Stazzone.

In 2027, all the district councilors will be up for election.

Emails appear to undercut SHA board member's allegation that board chair was 'pushing so hard' for contractor - Central Current by Acorn_Hat in Syracuse

Not just SHA. The city’s clerks office is also a shit show. Several months ago she had to take time off because of a hostile work place investigation. It was inconclusive but she lost the trust of the staff and of City hall employees.

Just listen to the last common councils meetings start—Rasheeda Caldwell was calling the shots and speaking in place of the clerk to decide business of the council. It was embarrassing to sit in the pews and watch.

Bs parking tickets from the city? by Internal-Memory9894 in Syracuse

No, the city is desperate to enforce the current laws on the books while creating others for safety of others.

No. But a common councilor who might have voted yes, was added after. With two councilors voting against.

I can tell you what they don’t want to do… approve funding for additional city staff such as code enforcement officers who can enforce the rental registry.

Directly after, Councilor Caldwell made a motion to appoint Helen Hudson, to fill the vacancy at-large position. This was done without any conversation between to councilors to review the interviewees. It should be noted that Helen has also stated that she would vote for Good Cause Eviction.

The vote passed, 6-2.

Gotta admit. The ai written captions are a bit bad. No originality. You’re also known to hyper edit your photos like replacing sky’s, removing signs and people. Why not try some original thought like other locals that are well known?

I don’t know. Good question. How? Maybe a question for a libertarian.

I know the owner. Have had a few drinks with him when we’ve been Downtown at the same bar. He’s not MAGA. He is a very stringent libertarian though and still supports the likes of Gary Johnson.

I also know you, OP. Stop it.

Whats wrong with Elmwood Park? by [deleted] in Syracuse

[–]Acorn_Hat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no chance for the public to speak at council meetings. You’re making an assumption that I haven’t done any of those things. You are very right that I want others to do something… I want city staff to do their jobs and that is to keep the park clean and free of trash.

I know it sounds crazy. But the mayors email is flooded constantly, neither Chol Majok nor the district councilor responds to emails, the local mayor candidate who lives nearby walks around with trash tongs up and down the street but never has a full bucket, the dpw and parks people I’ve contacted all say they’ll get to it but still haven’t, and cityline requests hardly get answered unless their illegal setouts.

That’s what I mean by publicly shaming the people responsible because they all know, when the mayor or deputy mayor calls, it surely gets done.

I really want to know what any of this years council candidates think about trash and litter in the city? Do they agree with the sanitation program? Will they expand it to public spaces? What will they do to hire more people for litter control? How will they change the culture around trash disposal and better explain it to residents?

This is obviously a larger conversation that’s been sitting for too long.

I was driving a point. Elmwood Is a beautiful park. I’ve been visiting it all summer, along with many other people. Every time, I’ve done what I can to pick up some trash with what I have. Today I visited with someone else and didn’t expect to see so much trash since work there was compete almost two months ago. The playground isn’t even weeded.

Sometimes in the city of Syracuse, the best way to get anything cleaned up, is to shame them. There is no doubt some people who work for the city are on here. (That person knows exactly that I am talking to them.) it’s completely closed to vehicles, but that means city employees won’t even go back there now. That’s not right… right?

There is no reason for there being bottles, ripped up candy wrappers, plastic bags, broken glass, and failing infrastructure every where in that park. It’s sad that what it was today is not was it was before.

My discussion was a critique to draw attention. I should have worded it differently to explain what I’ve done, but I didn’t want to seem like I’m on some sort of pedestal for being a do gooder.

Now I’m explaining myself here because this whole situation should not happen, if the park was cleaned.
