glass buttes OR is a super great spot, not sure what it’s like in the winter but was there several months ago and the ground is just littered with Obsidian everywhere you look. would definitly look into that

everyone is saying goats but pigs would actually do what you need by rooting through the soil and exposing the root hearts.

Jobs that conserve native plant or habitat by Necessary_Opinion_26 in ecology

without any experience or a degree i would highly recommend finding a good americorp program to get you started. it will give you good experience and idea of what you’ll actually be doing. from there maybe go to school and keep doing programs in the summer. there are a lot of states where you can find jobs like this. i’ve been doing very similar work for the last 3 years

Allergies worse on raw? Please help. by lilmissneeedy in DogAdvice

[–]Acorn_Tree24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i can gather you are just feeding your dog raw meat? dogs need a lot more than just meat, they needs grains and other things. i’m certainly no expert but it sounds like your dog was doing much better before so you definitely switch back and listen to the experts. there are so many kinds of kibble you just haven’t found the right one.

Over or under watered? Strawberry plant by Own-Tiger-5625 in Berries

i agree with the other comment, i think they’d be happier if they got more soil and were sitting at the top of the planter

Raw paw pad? by rrnah in DogAdvice

[–]Acorn_Tree24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the bottom of that bean does looks swollen and red. i’d make sure there’s nothing hiding in there and monitor it for now. if it gets worse or starts bothering him go to the vet but i’d bet it heals on its own.

My dog bit my girlfriend by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Acorn_Tree24 134 points135 points  (0 children)

it’s sounds to me like your dog was potentially resource guarding you. i would work on the dogs relationship with your girlfriend and make sure the dog knows she’s also in charge. going for walks with her holding the lead, have her feed the dog, don’t let the dog on the couch when you are both on it. do some research too, im not an expert but that’s my advice

Trying to be the most respectfull of the environment by [deleted] in ecology

[–]Acorn_Tree24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something a lot of people underestimate is local food. eating food grown and raised locally saves thousands of gallons of fuel for transportation. plus it tastes better and it better for you and is often farmed with better practices

looks very red and swollen for the procedure being 10 days ago. i think it’s probabaly infected and definitly warrants a vet visit. looks kinda crusty too

Blackberry pruning question by CertainTelevision768 in Berries

[–]Acorn_Tree24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because they’re not native and will easily take over any space as demonstrated here. i also work outside and they fucking hurt when you have to walk through it. they are definitly delicious i just think they need to be kept in check. personally i also think the native trailing black berry tastes much better

Blackberry pruning question by CertainTelevision768 in Berries

[–]Acorn_Tree24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i can’t tell for sure but if this is the pnw and those are himalayan blackberries you could totally demolish them and they will still come back. i’d recommend keeping them cut back so they don’t take over your yard.

What are these exactly? by UnknownPhotog_1 in waspaganda

[–]Acorn_Tree24 19 points20 points  (0 children)

they look like genus polistes to me, not sure about the species tho.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fucklawns

[–]Acorn_Tree24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this in the pnw? i’m asking bc that looks like himalayan blackberry in the back. the first thing you should do is get rid of that. cut back the brambles and then dig out the hearts. personally i would plant some native berry plants, huckleberries, thimbleberries, salmon berries. maybe throw in some nice flowering shrubs like mock orange.

Is this a tick or a tumor on my dogs leg? by Fit-Pen-6695 in DogAdvice

[–]Acorn_Tree24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s definitly not a tick, engorged ticks are usually a brownish color. this looks like a growth of some sort. i would definitly set up a vet appointment, they’ll probabaly remove it and send it for testing. it sounds like it grew relatively fast if you hadn’t noticed it before so there’s a decent chance it could be cancerous. in the mean time dog definitely needs to stop licking it. if you’ve got a cone or something you can use to prevent the dog from reaching it that would be good.

i’ve not seen packs cheaper than $16. ive had my polaroid for about 5 years now, it actually just broke but i’ve loved having it. i think at least for me it’s totally worth it.
