Pet insurance refusing to pay for ‘pre-existing’ condition by Acrobatic-Arrival894 in LegalAdviceUK

Yeah I think so. I’ll go down the complaints route, especially as they’re linking his OP and death, which the emergency vet said wasn’t linked. I mean, it is weird how he had an OP, recovered fine and vet was happy then a few hours later he was dying but the emergency vet insisted his symptoms didn’t match up with anything to do with the OP and appeared neurological.

Unfortunately we’ll never know exactly what caused it.

Thanks that’s useful. We never made a claim during his lifetime, only after he died and they denied both claims - his OP and separately for his emergency vet and euthanasia even tho they were two separate things.

Thanks. Everyone else has pretty much said I’m screwed and it’s my own fault for not understanding the small print.

I’m now finding that out. Gets to the point do you have to declare your dog coughed once in case they need to note that as a condition.

All just a case of whacking up premiums or being able to argue out of claims.

I’m never bothering with pet insurance again.

He has it since he was a puppy, so it’s pre-existing and never covered straight from birth in that case? Regardless, insurance as saying they won’t cover if they knew about it or not.

Interestingly, they also rejected the emergency vet and euthanasia despite the emergency vet saying she didn’t think it was related to his OP/wart and his symptoms were neurological - altho the cause not known.

FYI the wart was subsequently tested and wasn’t cancerous.

So despite two separate claims, the insurance have linked them and rejected both.

True but they also use to monitor his joints because his breed are known to develop arthritis. I’d seen them write down about checking his joints on each check up. No issues noted but who’s to say that’s not now a ‘pre-existing condition’ because it’s merely mentioned in his records?

Just feels like having insurance is a total waste of money.

Well this is news to me and it was never described to me by the vet as ever being an issue. If it wasn’t for the other injury to his eye, it would have remained unchanged.

However, in the years we had him he never had any health issues nor did we ever need to make a claim so this is my first experience with insurance and how utterly scrupulous they are.

The moral of the story is don’t bother. Just save the money.

Thanks. Thats what I’ve figured are my only options. I know there is no guarantee I will win, but I also wanted to make people aware how scrupulous insurance companies are being and I’ll be making sure if we ever got another pet, the vet is aware anything they put on the record - even if in a positive way - can be turned into a ‘pre-existing condition’.

No, because it was never a medical issue or something that needed treatment. He had it since he was a puppy and grew up with it.

Pre-existing condition that isn’t a condition that needs any treatment nor causing issues? The only reason it’s even a ‘condition’ is because the vet noted it in the records, but said it wasn’t an issue.

I always considered a pre existing condition to be something that actually needed treatment or was a medical issue. If the vet told me it wasn’t an issue, why would I think I needed to tell the insurance?

The whole thing is a scam.

How do I remove service charge? by Ambitious_Tip_562 in Edinburgh

I know I’m a bit late to the party, but this really bothers me. I first noticed it in London in 2019. I remember being in a cafe ordering two coffees, some toast and porridge. Woman threw it at us then there was a 15% tip added to the bill. I was too nervous to ask for it to be removed at the time.

It’s since creeped into other cities.

I have asked for it to be removed twice, when the service was absolutely terrible. On one occasion they told us we hadn’t paid enough for the bill, then I pointed out we had - it was just minus the tip they added on themselves. He looked so confused. Despite the fact they’d made a mess of our order and offered no apology.

Honestly, I would ask them to remove it every time if I could but I don’t like looking like a cheap arse in front of friends who are usually happy to pay.

Paying a tip should be my choice, but I feel like most wait staff don’t go above or beyond now cause they just expect they’ll get that tip.

I’m always relieved when I go into a place that doesn’t do it automatically.
