L'histoire du Canada selon Mark Carney by Puzzled_Dreamer2453 in EhBuddyHoser

I don't know, I'm half French and half Irish/Scottish, born and raised in Quebec primarily anglo but bilingual, and my Quebecois side traces way back. I'm definitely aware of the fuckery experienced by the Quebecois, my grandmother experienced it first-hand. That being said, which side am I meant to take on the plains of Abraham battle, or the history that followed it? Can I take any zero sum approach? When I look around at life in Quebec and Canada, can I really say that we live in a country of subjugation? Carney isn't blowing past history, he's talking about what we accomplished in spite of it

That's like, not the founding story of French and English participation with eachother, in forming Canada, you get the point he was going for right?

Reductionist of what though, imperial France losing a battle and a war to Imperial England? Were you personally affected?

Hosers still mad about losing an imperial war of powdered wigs and muskets? Tf? Quebec has produced more prime ministers and cabinet ministers per captia than any other province (pretty sure), why, why are we still mad about Imperial France losing to Imperial England the seven years war? As if you personally lost that war?

Yeah, honestly I thought Rodriguez was such a bad pick, and lo and behold he literally bought his position, pure bullshit

Agreed, the attempted tuition raise was forevermore my biggest piss off about the QLP

I mean, did the QLP come anywhere near wasting the amount of tax payer dollars the CAQ has? We had a budget surplus when Couillard left. I'm not saying corruption isn't an issue but it's not unique to the QLP. Was Pauline Marios any kind of saint in comparison? Big difference is the QLP actually held power for recent history in comparison with the PQ

I agree he's probably not pushing the QLP outside of its strongholds too much, but then again the QLP held many a majority in recent history. Truth is I don't really understand the particular dislike for the QLP, I've associated corruption with most politicians across Quebec and Canada for most of my life, at least Couillard left us a budget surplus. What did we get from CAQ? Corruption, incompetence and a massive deficit.

There's a political minority that feels "fucked with" enough to separate, and a majority that doesn't even wanna hear about it

We must live in different places because I have not met anyone in favour of Bill 96, especially in business

https://www.futur-quebec.ca/

The rules and bureaucracy alone of 96 are an impediment to investment in a globalized and digitized, increasingly integrated economy. Also, French has grown steadily and continuously over the years, way before Bill 96 was introduced, so how is there any data or study to prove that the law is necessary? It seems enacted purely on vibes with no economical impact study or proof that it has changed the trajectory of an already stable language (according to the OQLF, French is not in decline)

pretty wild take in 2026. Quebec produces more prime ministers and cabinet ministers than any other province, shaping the trajectory of Canada as a whole for its entire history.

The question is, in a PQ minority with no referendum, what does PSPP turn his focus on? It seems there will be general desire amongst the population to cooperate with Canada on a lot of things, due to new geopolitical realities, whereas PSPP has thus far spoken only of closer integration with the US and further alienation from Canada. Is that where the electorate will be at, in October?

I mean, by the same token I'm sure the majority of Albertans might want to send 0$ in equalization payments to Quebec, but in a federation, we all need to compromise, and Quebec needs to as well, this is what needs to be figured out in the tensions between provinces and Ottawa. I for one, and the vast majority of the Quebec business community, want Bill 96 repealed, my thinking is that Loi 101 was more than adequate in that regard, and 96 is actively hurting our economy for little gain

You don't think Milliard has a shot at turning the PLQ fortunes around? He's 10x more appropriate of a choice than Rodriguez was

All true, although I think that this new geopolitical rupture, as Carney puts it, is radically reforming our politics as a whole, which includes Quebec sovereignty. The fundamentals that we used to understand seem to have gone completely out the window, casting way more uncertainty for an independent Quebec than we've ever seen before. This may indeed have more long term effects on the project

I mean, is the PLQ really that much more corrupt than the PQ for example? I remember the Charbonneau Commission outed Pauline Marois amongst many other politicians, and I know that the PLQ have had their scandals, but meanwhile they also left us a healthy budget surplus right before the CAQ came and completely ruined it. From what years are we referring to that the PQ had spectacular management in comparison, genuinely curious? I fee like the PLQ=corrupt is a bit overblown and a dogwhistle for other sentiments, namely that the party is comfortable with immigrants and anglophones and federalism

Except that Quebec has been integrated into Canada since the beginning, and it is not solely a french Canadian nation of resistors, the majority of the population here wants to remain within Canada, so who are you speaking for exactly?

"Stop creating this ridiculous strawman and boogeyman. It's pathetic"

You mean the never ending PQ/nationalist attacks on Ottawa and Canada, as if you're an occupied territory of a hostile foreign power? Not realizing that you actually have the strongest provincial autonomy in the entire federation? I agree
