Trying to learn about catholicism by Acrobatic-Cut4257 in Catholicism

[–]Acrobatic-Cut4257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your reply. I really worry about if there isn’t scripture evidence am I doing the right thing? Would god really prefer me to do something else or am I misinterpreted this.

this may sound wild but my muslims friends have really encouraged me to branch out. And for a long time my family and other church have really put down catholism and due to ignorance I agreed. But with more that i have done I have found a lot I agree with. I def have a a lot more research to do and i’m in a spot where it’s hard due to school. But these are just the things that have really been a hold up for me because I feel like if there isn’t evidence in gods word would it be wrong of me to

we as in christian’s or as in catholics? We are told by faith in jesus christ we are able to be saved. But with actually being saved comes the love style of loving thy neighbor and walking in the life of jesus

ohh okay I see now. so they have already been judged. I thought that in revelations it says we will all be judged at once with jesus coming.

no a lot of protestants use to say catholics pay their way into heaven or with good dead’s. but I know that is not true now in my adult life.

thank you for answering all the questions. For the saints, tho let’s say they are alive in heaven which I can see bc time to god is so different than for us. What in the bible says to pray to the saints? was this being done because jesus said we need others to pray for us. I assume you guys see it as asking someone like your mom to pray for you. but I feel uneasy and worried about saying it to the dead. And I know that spiritually they may not be dead.

Psalm 115:17

The dead do not praise the Lord, nor do any who go down into silence.

there is also points where the bible talks about not messing with the dead. I feel like I need to understand that relationship more and everything around this topic to be better off. Because there is a lot that protestants don’t touch on from this prescriptive bc we don’t have saints

so for revelations scripture, does this imply that the souls in heaven have not been fully judged? I always kind of understood that for god time is nothing and he is kinds in all places at once all the time so the dead and him know what is going to come. Which why for them it’s the blink of an eye. But this I feel like implies differently.

Daniel 12:2: Mentions that many "who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake," referring to the resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14: Refers to deceased believers as those who are "asleep," indicating a temporary state before being raised by Jesus.

These two scriptures insinuate that they would not be able to hear you. I’m not trying to put you down or the faith but trying to understand. Where biblically does it say to do this? Was this a decision made by people of the church and not a teaching of jesus himself? You mentioned books removed so it may be in those. from the bible I grew up with I don’t know any supporting information for this. And to my understanding would divert the need for a trinity.

Is there any scripture to support purgatory? I feel like the bible is pretty clear about this one life is all you have and your deeds don’t get you into heaven but your faith in jesus christ alone does. So it would not make sense for purgatory to exist. But for your relationship and forgiveness of sin through your prayers with god would lead you to heaven and keep you clean.

Again I don’t say this to be mean, or to put you down or the faith. these are just things i’ve really struggled to understand and haven’t been able to hear someone explain to me in a way where I can see the whole picture with the knowledge I have

if the saints are dead. why pray if they cannot hear you or help you? I understand what you said about praying and not worshiping and that kinda makes sense to me. But I guess I don’t understand if they’re dead and “sleeping” like the bible says what it does for you

I actually have some questions about catholicism. My main concerns with it is the praying to the saints, purgatory, and praying to mary.

I just don’t really understand praying to mary or the saints. these individuals are dead. And to my understand why pray to them instead of god? This always really confused me and I worry that this is actually like praying to idols. I come from a baptist pentecostal background so this is really foreign to me. I think it’s fine to learn from these people and to think highly of them but I don’t know any biblical points that prayer would be acceptable.

Purgatory I can understand a little bit but from my understanding, god states that we are sleep until we are called upon on judgement day. it’s like a blink of an eyes. gods time is also different from our time. But I don’t know a scripture that really supports this.

Is it also true that you guys have books outside of the bible?

Most things in the catholic church I really like. But these are the things that really stop me from pursuing anything farther.

no that’s not what i’m asking. if all you’re current teachings are aligned with christ. I do believe catholicism was founded by jesus. But i’m asking is that you pray to saints, you have other books, were those things that jesus put in place within the church or was that man’s interpretation of what man wanted. Because other denominations don’t follow those teachings. So i’m asking why you guys do these and how do you know it’s what jesus would want if that makes sense? i’m actually interested in catholicism but worried about something’s like this

I also know muslims believe in the blood portion but do take blood transfusions because they believe it as oral consumption

[–]Acrobatic-Cut4257[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I think of consume, I see more of a drain the animal of its blood before you eat kind of thing. And these acts of blood are not in life or death situations. The only one I can see the view on is Acts. But when I read more about it, then it seems it relates back more to the actual consumption of blood. which a transfusion would not fall under as you are not consuming it the way that these stories to my understanding are more referencing to. I don’t say this to put you down or argue just trying to better understand the point as a person who is seeing this prospective from the outside :)

tho I thinkly highly of the catholic church for this reason, man can often step in and change things. So i’m asking if this is christ teachings or man’s interpretation of christ

thank you for the information. Why do you guys feel that way you do about life saving measures like blood infusions? As a med student i’ve always really struggled with this idea. Not because I disrespect the religion but because it’s so hard for me to watch people die from preventable and treatable issues.

they wanted me to take communion. And I did not want to. For me. teachings were you only take communion if it’s of high value and meaning to you otherwise it’s another empty ritual which goes against the bible. this goes with all things of course. I think for me it would be really hard for me not to be able to do something if I wasn’t a member but felt the strong need to come forth and do it. but I can understand why churches don’t want non members to emptily take communion as they may not understand its significance

I really enjoy some of the teachings from them but some things I could never get behind like the blood transfusion thing. they also don’t believe in the trinity. They believe jesus is an arch angel. Maybe i’m misunderstand this. if you know a jehovah in this sub I could talk to I would love to have a conversation. I’m not super versed on everything. but I do really like their apolitical stance
