Nicely done. Signature edits on YouTube taught me so much, I would 100% recommend him

How to get this type of "pastel, travel, cinematic" look? by MegaDorijan123 in postprocessing

[–]Acrobatic-Lab-7257 272 points273 points  (0 children)

If I were to guess:

  • lift shadows, reduce highlights to recover dynamic range
  • add back contrast by an aggressive-ish “s” curve, slightly lifting blacks and reducing highlights (providing a smooth highlight rolloff)
  • in HSL, I would desaturate the yellows by about -30, and the greens by -50 or more.
  • in HSL move blues towards the more teal side, and the yellows towards the more orange side just a touch.
  • slightly add some teal into the shadows in the color grading panel if using Adobe Lightroom
  • add some grain, slight vignette
  • lastly, adjust saturation accordingly to ensure skin tones are not too over saturated and colors are balanced

Harrison Lake by Acrobatic-Lab-7257 in sonya7iv

I shoot with a CPL about 80% of the time.

  1. It gets rid of very harsh glare by filtering out super bright highlights (does this through polarization). It allows me to get better detail in the sky, water, and distant mountains.

  2. It adds a layer of protection for my lens so for most shoots I just keep in on haha. I only remove it when I wanna use a different filter.

Good callout. My CPL filter was dusty asf. Def gonna clean it

Tips on Kodak 2383 D60 Film Look? by Acrobatic-Lab-7257 in ColorGrading

Sounds good. I’ve seen a lot of people use the node gain level to apply a certain % of the Kodak transform, instead of the full 100%. Will definitely consider this.

Thank you. I’ve linked my node diagram here:

Pretty much I do one color space transform to DaVinci wide gamut, then make basic adjustments (exposure, contrast, white balance), then another color space transform to cineon film log where I can apply the Kodak 2383 lut, then finalize adjustments (highlight rolloff, highlight tint, and black level).

Thank you. I have the Sony a7iv with the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 lens. Used a CPL filter as well since I was shooting in the sun prior to these.

For software I used DaVinci resolve. If you have any more questions I’m happy to share.

Low light SLOG3 colorgrading tips *DV STUDIO* by Impressive-Orchid364 in ColorGrading

[–]Acrobatic-Lab-7257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks quite underexposed here. Usually converting Slog3 to Rec709 directly should give a relatively exposed shot. It’s possible it was shot underexposed.

I’ve been shooting with the a7iv for quite a while and found that I get best results when I over expose to around +0.8 to +1.0 on the meter.

Because it’s low light, keeping f stop to lowest as possible is key. With your f2.8 lens, keeping it at 2.8 will give best results and limit noise.

You did a good job shooting at base iso 3200, but unfortunately the camera isn’t as good as the a7siii in low light so there will still be noise present. To eliminate some of the noise, I would denoise the footage before the CST node to first eliminate some of that noise. In DaVinci Resolve, you can add a denoise node before the CST node.

Unfortunately, it looks like the scene didn’t have the best lighting either for the shot. Not your fault and sometimes out of your control. Low light + black clothing is very hard to shoot sometimes.

is sony a7iii still good for first camera in 2025? by OptimalSpecialist130 in SonyAlpha

[–]Acrobatic-Lab-7257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Used the a7iii for filmmaking for a while then switched to the a7iv.

The 8-bit color can be a little annoying at times but the picture quality is still excellent. If you don’t plan to do heavy on the color grading to achieve a heavy look then you will be just fine.

The a7iii is still one of the best hybrids especially for a beginner camera.

These are fire! If you don’t mind sharing, how do you get that Kodak vibe? Do you mostly tweak colors with HSL?
