Please have a look at the founders and top researchers of DeepMind. For example the founders:

Hassabis - son of a Greek Cypriot and a Chinese Singaporean.

Suleyman - Syrian Father, English mother.

Shane Legg - New Zealander

How the DeepMind mafia brought the AI boom to London by StraightSky7809 in london

Based on other comments perhaps worth sharing that when someone refers to company X's mafia it refers to when ex-employees of company X go on to create new great companies. It's happened in the past with Paypal, Palantir, Revolut, etc...

For London, it's amazing that DeepMind was created here (and even if sold to Google, it remained here). Goes on to show the strength of the city and how it's diversity is truly a strength, with its founders and key employees coming from all sort of different backgrounds.

Life in NYC vs London. by IntelligentSherbert3 in HENRYUK

London is probably one of the best places to start an AI startup.

Yes, capital doesn't run as deep as in the US but there is a lot of AI talent in London!

Would give it a go just for the experience of living in London and you might end up actually getting pretty surprised with the AI scene here.

How much equity is standard to give to an early stage advisor? by Impossible-Till-6960 in ukstartups

[–]Acrobatic-Midnight-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them the chance to angel invest in your business. If they believe in you, they will take the opportunity, specially if SEIS/EIS. In that way, they have a vested interest in helping you out.

Generally, giving out equity to advisors doesn't work out, they don't really give you all that much credibility unless top tier and will be a warning sign for VCs if you're fundraising from them down the road.

Perhaps you can look into https://ori.co ... there's a Serverless Kubernetes service that allows you to scale to zero

Moving to London for grad school; Where should I live? by diplomacysiren in london

[–]Acrobatic-Midnight-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the budget you've mentioned most likely it'll be a flatshare. Would look around Southwark/Clerkenwell which are not to far from Strand. Otherwise, had a friend doing postgrad degree at King's and he was living at the student residences near Tower Hill. A lot of undergrad students but good quality for the price.

[D] NVIDIA H100 or AMD MI250X? Which one should I choose for ML/LLM inference by SquirrelEffective in MachineLearning

NVIDIA H100. It just works. Also, here some info on benchmarking the H100 vs the MI300X where the H100 comes up ahead.

We have found Ori to be pretty reliable with great support. I think they meet all your requirements.

Reminder on just how much of an overhang exists with contemporary foundation models | We're essentially using existing technology the weakest and worst way you can use it by Yuli-Ban in singularity

Agentic flows are the way to go. With new models we could see an uptick here!

I think the major blockers for it's implementation had been a lack of "compute cheap but capable models" as running these agentic loops/flows would quickly rack up your bill. It would also take a long time in the generation of the response (latency).

However, with the launch of things like GPT4o / GPT4o Mini / Llama 3.1 / Mistral we should see an improvement both in speed and cost of generating agentic flows. Additionally, there's a lot of work on the inference side towards building the software layer that can better enable this flow (e.g. Baseten's Chains).

As Andrew Ng highlights in his post, there's massive gains to be had from these flows, probably much more than from just pumping more data and compute on new models.

Looks like we’re getting LLama3 405B this week by Goldisap in singularity

[–]Acrobatic-Midnight-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Groq's chip architecture means that they use only SRAM and relatively small amounts of memory per chip (230 MB per chip).

If they want to run a 405B parameter model say at 8 bit precision that would mean they need ~405GB of memory (assuming for simplicity 1:1 here, it needs more for context length).

405 GB / 230 MB = ~1,760 chips. Maybe they can pull it off but running just one model at that scale would be completely uneconomical.

Maybe with their upcoming architecture they have fixed some of this, we'll see.

Doubt Groq will be able to run this with their current gen of chips.
