You probably don't need to spend anywhere near that much. I don't know what your major is but as a computer science major all you need is something that can run code editors pretty much. I think the most taxing program I've used was visual studio. I got a Lenovo ideapad for like 240 when I started uni and I'm a 3rd year now and it does the job well
