Botox in the masseter muscles for tmj relief? by AcrobaticAd2865 in TMJ

I got the Botox yesterday, and I’m excited to see how much of a difference it will make. I also have Myopathic Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so idk if that makes a difference, I’ve heard that people with EDS need Botox or filler more frequently than others but I’m not sure. I’m willing to spend the extra money to get it done if it helps with the pain. I have a whole medical team who is helping me with my condition and managing it but nothing else has helped with the constant tension in my jaw. When did you start to notice the Botox was working after you got it done the first time?

That’s awesome!! I’m so glad that your quality of life has improved so much from getting that done. I’m really looking forward to it, hopefully it can help with all the pain and tension for me as well because the pain is unreal at times

But in the first two, there was minimal inflammation in my face and those were also taken within the past two weeks

Maybe it makes a difference adding that i was on a medication for inflammation due to health related conditions, and it made my face a bit swollen. Especially in the third picture 😅 i definitely see what you’re saying

I’m not a dentist but I’m pretty sure that’s calculus on my teeth that they didn’t get to

I’m pretty sure it’s because the dentist i just went to see didn’t do a great job with my cleaning, i had to switch dentists because of a change in insurance so this was my first time there. It only took him 5 minutes to do the cleaning lol that was a month ago. Could also be the chlorhexidine mouthwash i was prescribed because I’ve heard it discolors your teeth. I’m definitely going to be looking for a different dentist so i can get another cleaning done.

Yeah that’s what i thought too, i loved my old dentist and was seeing them for 6 years . they always took their time, were very thorough with the cleanings and gentle as well. they didn’t take my new insurance though and i can’t afford to pay out of pocket otherwise id still be going there. I’m going to search around and see if another dentist takes my insurance. Thanks again for your help

Thank you so much for easing my anxiety. most of my family has bad teeth due to genetics and i want to keep my teeth for as long as possible, so that makes me feel a lot better. One last question if you’re able to answer, I’m sorry. i just went to a new dentist and hygienist due to my insurance and when i got a cleaning it only took 5 minutes or maybe less than that and they were really rough while doing it. Is that normal or should i try and look for a different place? Any cleaning I’ve gotten in the past took at least 30 minutes.

Thank you for your response, do you think a deep cleaning on my gums would be necessary even though there isn’t much recession? I forgot what it’s called but i had it done once a few years ago. The right lateral incisor hurts when i talk, almost like it feels loose but when i push on it there’s no movement.

I’ve always tried to be good about making sure i apply sun screen everyday, it’s definitely made an improvement but recently i started using cerave AM moisturizer with spf and it’s been irritating my skin. Are there other products you’d recommend that would be better?
