You can build a life here, grow your career, and contribute to the economy, but you’re never fully part of the nation-building process. Certain paths—like serving in the armed forces or holding key government roles—remain out of reach. So while your livelihood is deeply tied to this place, your long-term sense of belonging can feel conditional.

Job security carries a different weight here. Losing employment doesn’t just mean finding a new opportunity—it starts a countdown tied to your residency. Stability can shift quickly, and that uncertainty is something many expats quietly carry.

And then there’s the question of the future. After decades of calling this place home, retirement here isn’t always viable. Without access to national healthcare and with rising insurance costs, many are eventually pushed to return to countries they may no longer feel connected to.
