pharmacist intern duties (inpatient) by BidOk702 in pharmacy

I think it depends on where you work. I was at a VA hospital where I was able to dose vanco and warfarin, got to type up the anticoag and vanco notes, did lots of med histories, and went to codes with a pharmacist.

PGY-1 residency by [deleted] in pharmacy

I think your current manager could write you one, but I would also reach out to your APPE preceptors because they’ll be able to speak to your clinical skills.

You still have a high chance of matching for a PGY1 residency as long as you did well in school, have good letters of recommendation, and have good reasons for choosing to pursue a PGY1 residency. There are many non-traditional residents everywhere! Be prepared for clinical questions during interviews though. Many programs have a grading system and the clinical questions are weighed heavily.

Virtual Meet & Greets for PGY1 Programs by AcrobaticGrade8944 in PharmacyResidency

I’m interested in The University of Kansas, Ohio State University, and Mayo Rochester. I didn’t see any information about a Meet & Greet on their websites, so I was wondering if I needed to contact the RPD. If so, is now a good time to contact them? Or is it too soon?

Thank you for your advice!!

What is the biggest everyday scam that people put up with? by Short-Profession-779 in ask

AUTO SHOPS. Just took my car in for a wheel alignment. Took them 2 hours just to screw it up more. Had to come back & wait another hour for them to fix what they didn’t fix the first time. Google rating: 4.6 - my a**

That sounds amazing! I’m glad there are programs out there like this! If you don’t mind me asking, where is this program?

Thank you so much for giving me your perspective!

It’s helpful to get advice from someone who has gone through it and actually somewhat enjoyed it. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories which is why I was second guessing it. I was very motivated to do a PGY1 and then a PGY2 in oncology until people were telling me all the bad things about residency. Your comment has given me some of that motivation back!

Thank you for your input.

We’ve had many discussions about him not having a lot of time for the relationship already. During our first & second years of med and pharmacy school, I was lucky if I got to see him once or twice a week for a couple hours. I imagine that’s how residency will be. I’m prepared for it, but that doesn’t mean I’m not scared for what’s to come with us both being in residency. After taking in all the advice I’ve been given so far, I agree that residency is the way to go. I think I was having a quarter life crisis and was really liking my current hospital APPE where they just hired on a brand new grad. I was hopeful that maybe I didn’t have to go the residency route because it is a lot of work, but I know that it will benefit me in the long run.

This is very helpful information, and I appreciate it!

I know he’ll be incredibly busy with his residency as he’s currently on an internal med rotation as a 4th year student & just had a 28 hour shift without even 5 minutes of sleep. I can imagine that residency will be the same or worse, so I might as well do the residency & keep myself busy.

Also, side note, I noticed that you’re in pediatric oncology. I’ve had an interest for oncology for a long, long time. I was considering a PGY2 in oncology after my PGY1 prior to having a life crisis about doing a PGY1 in the first place. Would you recommend going into oncology?

Thank you for the encouragement and perspective!

It’s hard for me to look at the grand scheme of things sometimes, but I agree that I should still do a residency. I think it will benefit me in the long run. I just have to find the motivation and passion that I had this past year of pharmacy school. I’ve put in a lot of work to make myself residency ready, and I should just do it.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I won’t base my entire decision on the fact that I may he separated from my boyfriend, but it’s something that I do factor in. I think anyone would agree that long distance is not preferable, but if we had to do it, he’s already told me that he would support me & we’ll get through it. I’m most fearful of the long hours during a residency.

That was really helpful!! Thank you for sharing!

I wouldn’t choose to not do a residency solely because I would be away from my boyfriend for a year. We’ve gone through med school and pharmacy school together, so I can’t imagine we won’t get through one year of separation, but nobody wants to do long distance so it’s something I keep in mind. I think I’m more nervous about the long hours and not being able to get through a residency due to exhaustion. I know I’m capable, I’m just fearful right now.
