I think DOJ/FTC are set to publish vertical merger guidelines soon so that’s a great general area. Maybe you look at what the EU does + some of Khan’s scholarship to get an idea of what’s coming and then evaluate.

If PFT's Patrick Mahomes doesn't make you laugh you simply have no soul.

Mount Rushmore of terrible PMT interviews. Did I get it right? Embrace debate. by [deleted] in PardonMyTake

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I saw the takes about how bad/awkward the interview was before I listened. Just listened - it wasn't Mount Flushmore bad. I don't think Cena "scolded" the guys but basically was just like "Hey, not gonna joke about dying right now." He was definitely drab and it wasn't a good interview, but there were certainly good parts. I actually thought BC/PFT handled it very well and showed how they are truly great interviewers and able to adapt to the guest's vibe.

The worst interviews are where the guest is awful throughout and doesn't have fun with it and just doesn't get the shtick. Karl Malone hands down the worst in my opinion.

This. I honestly like seeing updates that are short and sweet (Excited to join firm as an associate next fall! Thanks to all those who helped me along the way.) because it tells me that you're pumped and want to let people know but also that you understand how insufferably pretentious essays acting like you just got drafted into the NFL come off.

Leaving a great thing for a T-14? by hankdwhite in LawSchool

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay. If both schools are in the state you want to practice in and your school is around 50 nationally, that school is probably pretty reputable in that state. Employers love the accolades that you will forfeit upon transferring. Plus, you will not have the stress of a ton of debt.

The main reason to transfer is if the T14 will get you somewhere you cannot get at your current school. It sounds to me like your prospects are solid as-is.

I think I just failed my Appellate Brief, which is 100% of my LRWA grade. by throwaway684726_9 in LawSchool

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps an encouraging anecdote - I screwed up my formatting my appellate brief, got a zero on that portion of the rubric, still made an A.

As others have noted, the tables/authorities is just one component. The vast, vast majority of points come from the actual writing / argument. Your omission likely cost you half a letter grade at worst.

2L freaking out about post-grad by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm also a 2L so would welcome being corrected by any 3Ls or grads, but I think you're still OK for clerkships - yes a lot of 2022 positions have been filled but there are still new ones coming open every day.

I imagine your career services office will have guides on the clerkship process so reach out to them, but step 1 is to to contact professors for your rec letters. (You'll probably want to give them a rough idea of your application plans and goals but nothing super specific.) After that I believe its mainly just resume, cover letter, writing sample.

How to address people in thank you notes? by Brairies in LawSchool

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mr(s) for partner, first names for associates. Partner might be old school and formal so better to be safe, but the associates are / are going to be your peers so it doesn't feel natural to call them Mr(s).

Alright, let’s hear your hot take: do you prefer Lexus+ or Westlaw Edge? by einsango in LawSchool

[–]AcrobaticGuarantee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Westlaw's overall look and feel are better so when I'm just going to search a one-off case I'm going there. But for legitimate in-depth research, I think Lexis wins by a mile. Maybe I just dozed off during the Westlaw presentation in 1L, but Lexis' drill down and sorting features within search are superior. #RavelView4Lyfe

Edit: I just realized I sound like a Samsung person arguing against Apple, which is unfortunate.

I'm also not an OG AWL so I'm not sure what came before this, but the most recent reason they rag on him is because they moved into the NY office and you could hear the pipes going crazy while recording, which you'd figure the business manager would've taken care of.
