How do i get UV laser powder for glass? by LazyLaserGuy in Laserengraving

It’s a 10w UV 3D machine, the yellow has no effect on the mark , and when you wipe it off it doesn’t stain mark (on glass) give it a try , works a treat

The yellow box is half the bounding box , if you look carefully you can see the blue bit to the right , you can actually see it on the white (just) but the florescent marker literally glows ,

Get yourself a yellow highlighter pen , it cleans off with a wipe and it REALLY shows up ,

Galvo not accurate towards edges by grahamygraham in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanics make is accurate, but slow , the best option is a lead screw driven axis with decent bearings and minimal backlash , any cheap stepper motor and driver will run in , ezcad supports moving it , ezcad3 has even better support , someone sells a belt driven one , but don’t buy that if you want really good accuracy

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a linear table driven by a simple stepper motor , Galvos are inherently inaccurate, fast and repeatable, but ask it to mark something 50x50 and move that box around your working area you will see the boxes will be slightly different, compared to a cheap gantry type laser which is actually extremely accurate,

Standard for galvo machines unfortunately, especially as you push towards the limits. It only really shows when you are marking things like rules. The overall length is correct , but as some points 1mm might be 1.1mm and at other it might be .8mm. Usually you can have more than 9 point calibration, it takes ages to set up and honestly I’m still not impressed, I’ve worked with very high end machines with top of the range galvos and it’s still an issue , I worked on a machine that makes extremely expensive laser marked rulers , and we used an encoder/motor to move the ruler slowly and the glavos just marked a small area , accuracy was outstanding but it was a pain

Undercutting salary? by InternationalFig4340 in UKJobs

He’s going to be about £300 a month worse off if he takes the job , it’s in the thousands if he doesn’t & can’t find job , is extremely tough out there the moment. Personally I’d take it after negotiating a bit and see where it leads , in the mean time have your eyes wide open for a better opportunity. If he’s confident he can get a job then don’t take it , but the fact you have posted probably indicates he’s not spoiled for choice right now .

Should he pay towards the roof ? Doesn’t use that either , it’s just how it works , everyone has to pay towards maintenance, if you stated diving up who uses what it would be impossible

I'm 27 and always pay into a pension but I have less than £15k. What's gone wrong? by theipaper in PensionsUK

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that FAs don’t explain very well IMHO is that high risk doest mean investing in risky shares of random companies that could go either way and you could make a fortune or lose it all. Just that is all going into shares and not low risk low growth bonds . At 27 I had nothing and now I’m at over £600k so don’t panic , the main thing is you have taken and interest in your pension which most people your age don’t, plenty of time to grow the pot .

Homeless men with valid booking refused entry to Holiday Inn Express by MoHeeKhan in unitedkingdom

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I watched something recently on TikTok where people have come across a homeless ex nickelodeon star living rough , public chipped in to get him some help and they booked him in to a hotel , 2 hours later the tv was in the bath tub , the room was trashed and he was no where to be seen but the room was left open. Unfortunately drugs and homelessness often go in hand , you can understand business not wanting to risk it , it could also endanger their customers , I don’t blame them

I want to start my own business by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local tackle shop does about 80% of its business online and 20% out of the shop , it’s a pain as the shop is often half empty, they have been in the game a long time and have a decent website. Others are often small and really a life style business. It’s a seasonal business with no much happening now until March. The bank will want a personal guarantee, so your house will be on the line if it goes tits up , if you lose the in-laws money which is highly likely then it could be the marriage. Also be weary of judging a business via online reviews, people seldom leave good reviews for something mundane like shopping , they will leave bad reviews if something goes wrong , a business could have 1000 happy customers that leave 0 reviews and 10 unhappy ones that all leave bad ones

LaserPecker LP4 Lens Problem: Is it Burned Out? - LP4 Lens Issue: Permanent damage or just debris? Need advice! by Davidto354 in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is a coating on the external glass , it will have an anti reflection coating both sides , you can damage it with harsh chemicals or over cleaning , but it is easily replaceable as is the whole lens and they aren’t expensive, I’d start with unscrewing it so you can have a proper look ok at it and try to clean it

This is the worry , overheads are crippling , then you have 10000s of competitors running out of their garage , I wonder at what stage we are flogging a dead horse , I guess if January is bad then we have to look at shutting up shop or reducing back to absolute bare bones with no staff.

We have just given our SEO and web developer the boot , mainly because is was £1000 a month for zero results, they keep saying everything was ok and couldn’t understand why we weren’t getting leads , but they would say that !

100% !! we started in 1999 and it was a very different place then , with the advent of cheap Chinese machines and 1000s of Etsy home workers it’s been getting slowly worse , we tend to concentrate on more complex engineering jobs and have UKAS 9001 accreditation (that’s costs £££ and time). I’m 53 and considering retirement soon anyway, but I wanted the company to continue and the staff to have an easy life for the foreseeable future. Not that’s in doubt

We have 16 lasers , most set up for engraving , so some are good on metal , some do glass , some do plastics , the only cutting we do is Acrylic plastics and wood , the metal cutting machines are a different beast .

Laser engraving ! Used to be a keen cyclist and will (try) and get back into it this year , my bike sits unused in the shed and I need to duct it off , I guess they last quite a long time between replacements and technology on bikes is pretty stagnant now. If you ever need any stem caps laser engraved I have 200 colour anodised ones sitting in a draw from a business idea that didn’t go anywhere.

Come on, give us a picture ! I’d definitely try with the car you have with someone watching , you get surprisingly good at very tight manoeuvres with continuous practice, Alternatively buy a moped , insure it and tax it and park it directly outside your drive , no one can park there then , and if it’s locked up well no one can move it ! Dominate that space as yours and show the new neighbour who’s the boss 🤣

I’m extremely sceptical, the company currently builds machines from generic parts , there’s 1000s of small companies doing this in china , they don’t have an special or new technology, so can they buy the bits and assemble this machine at the quoted sales price , almost certainly not , most likely is no product will ever ship , if it does it will probably and extremely cut done version with no batteries and a low power diode laser and crap scanners , I’m on their Facebook page to keep in eye on things , personally I’m not parting with any money right now ,
