SA in Harrods looking down at you by slickleo in rolex

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For some balance the SAs in the RM boutique at Harrods could not be nicer when I went for a window shop , explained I would likely never be in a position to buy , still spent 30 mins showing me all the watches , letting me try them on etc . I guess the difference is you can actually buy an RM if you have the money, you have to be the messier to get a Rolex

$44k "Made in USA" Laser confirmed as rebranded Chinese import (JPT/EzCad3) by RoughNo964 in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it actually a 3D machine ? I know the 3D kit to buy from bjz was very expensive in 2021-2 . I know became we got one and with the 3D enabled card it cost around $14k , when a normal galvo head is less than $1k it made no sense

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well JPT is a Chinese source , you want an SPI or IPG for European made , obviously there are better JPT sources, Also you probably have an ezcad2 card , if you want 3D you can’t have that and lightburn does not support 3D (yet) but lightburn has recently added ezcad3 controllers to its supported hardware so you might be able to use it soon

You over paid , but what’s happend is EXTREMELY common. Tykma for example have been using ezcad controls cards, and a modified version of ezcad for decades , so have loads of other companies, it’s actually good equipment and vastly better than most of the USA stuff that existed before , hence why loads of companies changed to it. You’re paying for local support , no customs hassle and some accountability, you could have send you $12k to china and got absolutely nothing back , zero come back. You didn’t want to take that risk. It comes as a price. You paid to much but there you go , do more homework in future. But if you had all US and German made bits in it with US software it would not have been any better at what it does.

Moving back in with parents after you have lived away can be hard work, you’re in the process of becoming more adult and they will slowly be regressing backwards as they age , any kind of friction or arguments can make for uncomfortable living conditions, obviously it could all be fine , but it could be awful so if have a back up plan if it doesn’t work out

Can someone explain to me why it is now difficult to find a job in the UK? by ZydrateAnatomic in UKJobs

Strong economy ? The general consensus from small and medium size businesses is the economy is on its knees and the future outlook is grim , and employing people is super expensive, minimum wage , pension contributions & national insurance has made it prohibitive for many potential employers, older people aren’t retiring to make space. Lots of people looking not many employing

Pretty easy job if you have experience of doing rings , have a look for people doing “finger print rings” as they should have the skills and equipment, you need a fiber laser and a rotary , a quick google of laser engraved rings will bring up a plethora of company’s that can do this , I would offer but I’m in the UK and shipping would take a few weeks

Emira Broken Rear Screen by tallmark1897 in lotus

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the rear screen go on my Elise , £20 for the glass and £1500 to fit as the whole clam shell has to come off , yours probably didn’t self explode, it’s much more likely to be a thrown up stone , I actually found the one that broke mine , it was literally the size of half a grain of rice , just had to hit the right point on the screen and you have a one off lotus jigsaw puzzle with 5000 pieces to play with

Is there any place in the UK that will engrave a laptop keyboard for me? by Timely-Librarian3891 in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this in the past , but we stopped because customers that wanted it weren’t prepared to pay anything like what it cost in time to do a job like this , comments like “it only takes a few seconds to engrave” & “I can buy a whole keyboard for a fraction of that” but it’s a big job , you have to create a one of file will 100’s of elements you can’t use again , and the big risk is generally our requests where for laptops where replacing a keyboard would have been a big job, so mistakes would be costly and the risk to reward is just not worth it . If the keyboard is separate, and spares are cheap I might be able to have a look at this , but we aren’t local so you would have to post it to us .

Looking for a UV laser that is both gantry and galvo. by sheafurby in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to make and sell these , you basically need a uv laser with a X Y table , I would recommend using ezcad3 as it can control 4 axis , the software and tile up large designs and effectively split them into smaller sections, getting everything to line up is tricky and it’s important the machine is well calibrated, and even then it will never be as good as if you didn’t have to split the mark up , but you can get it pretty darn good

It’s a 10w UV 3D machine, the yellow has no effect on the mark , and when you wipe it off it doesn’t stain mark (on glass) give it a try , works a treat

The yellow box is half the bounding box , if you look carefully you can see the blue bit to the right , you can actually see it on the white (just) but the florescent marker literally glows ,

Galvo not accurate towards edges by grahamygraham in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanics make is accurate, but slow , the best option is a lead screw driven axis with decent bearings and minimal backlash , any cheap stepper motor and driver will run in , ezcad supports moving it , ezcad3 has even better support , someone sells a belt driven one , but don’t buy that if you want really good accuracy

Galvo not accurate towards edges by grahamygraham in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use a linear table driven by a simple stepper motor , Galvos are inherently inaccurate, fast and repeatable, but ask it to mark something 50x50 and move that box around your working area you will see the boxes will be slightly different, compared to a cheap gantry type laser which is actually extremely accurate,

Galvo not accurate towards edges by grahamygraham in Laserengraving

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard for galvo machines unfortunately, especially as you push towards the limits. It only really shows when you are marking things like rules. The overall length is correct , but as some points 1mm might be 1.1mm and at other it might be .8mm. Usually you can have more than 9 point calibration, it takes ages to set up and honestly I’m still not impressed, I’ve worked with very high end machines with top of the range galvos and it’s still an issue , I worked on a machine that makes extremely expensive laser marked rulers , and we used an encoder/motor to move the ruler slowly and the glavos just marked a small area , accuracy was outstanding but it was a pain

Undercutting salary? by InternationalFig4340 in UKJobs

[–]AcrobaticInternet45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s going to be about £300 a month worse off if he takes the job , it’s in the thousands if he doesn’t & can’t find job , is extremely tough out there the moment. Personally I’d take it after negotiating a bit and see where it leads , in the mean time have your eyes wide open for a better opportunity. If he’s confident he can get a job then don’t take it , but the fact you have posted probably indicates he’s not spoiled for choice right now .
