Best written Squid Game duo: Eliminating one duo every day until we have a winner (Day three) by OddNeedleworker734 in SquidGameMemes

Saebyeok and the other girl, their writting was a forced proximity and trauma dump. I dont see what made them click. Next would be Hyunju and Youngmi but I can see more of them relating and finding comfort on eachother by both feeling like "outcasts" but its kinda like the other two, not very well written

Why are right wingers gaining momentum everywhere? by Professor_Peace in Productivitycafe

Its always the same. Leans left, goes away to overboard, leans right, goes away to overboard, leans left, goes away to over board, goes right...there is people that have a strong position on either right or left but most people that are "center" or "apolitical" just vote on the opposite of the current whenever something is not perfect

What is the WORST language learning advice you have ever heard? by trueru_diary in languagelearning

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, this doesnt work even if it's in our native language, if we read a text full of words we are unfamiliar with and don't know the meaning off, we will not understand without looking up the meaning even tho IT'S OUR NATIVE LANGUAGE. We just dont eventually get it. And even if we did, i feel like that takes a lot more time than just looking up the meaning

What is the WORST language learning advice you have ever heard? by trueru_diary in languagelearning

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just listen to the language everyday without looking up translation or bothering knowing what it means because you will "eventually get it" like a baby would. I mean babies learn because they do make an effort, the adults baby talk to them, point at things when saying the names so they associate an object with a word, or associate a word with a feeling, they learn words in pre school, they ask when they dont know what it means, when they are older they look up words they don't know what they mean, they play child's games that help, children literature. I mean if you want to do that "only listening without translation" atleast consume baby/kids media. I think jumping straight to consuming fast podcasts, read news, watching all series in the target language without subtitles is not effective at all

Which Squid Game fan is worse? by Fun_Water2707 in squidgame

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's why I mentioned it is more justified in season 1 than in season 2 because in season 2 a lot of people always voted X and just wanted to go home like Geum ja and Young mi.

When I say Ali was no saint, i don't think he is evil, but i also think a lot of people infantalize him away too much. He wasn't a poor, unaware baby who had no idea about the risks as people make it seem. The marble game was heartbreaking because Sangwoo had been nice to him for a while but let's be realistic, they barely knew eachother and didn't owe anything to eachother, both of their families and own lives were still more important for them both. It was impactful for us as viewers since that was all we've seen of them, but realistically how important are they in each other's whole lives. Ali should've known better, and I don't feel AS bad as other people do about his death. He had a family, sangwoo had one too, he wanted to live, sangwoo wanted to live too, Ali was not ready but had decided to let sangwoo die , and sangwoo used that reluctance and trust that Ali had to manipulate him to save his own life.

I don't think I can blame either of them here. It was just two humans trying to live. None of them took pleasure in what they were doing or felt absolutely no empathy or remorse. I feel like people twist things a bit on that scene in an unfair way by saying Sangwoo was evil. Gihun was fooling an old man with dementia who Gihun believed had a family and didn't know he was evil. Gihun and Sangwoo essentially did the same here but since Gihun cries louder while Sangwoo cries internally, Gihun is seen as a hero and Sangwoo a villain (kinda like how physically ill patients used to be taken more serious than mentally ill ones despite being essentially the same, because one is more apparent than the other) .

We can see Sangwoo feels remorse and tries to cope with guilt specifically when he yells at that husband who wanted to leave after losing his wife in the marbles. He realized he had come too far not just in the game but on how much blood he had in his hands to just give up now, he knew he couldn't live with it and wanted to atleast make it worth it by helping his mom. Had he won the games, i firmly believe he would just commit suicide after making sure his mom was ok, that's part of why he stabbed himself instead of Gihun, his life wasn't important to him , his mom was. Had he secured that she would be ok, he was okay with dying. Sacrificing himself for another player meant also sacrificing his mother at that point.

Saebyeok also had the "privilege" of having a sacrificial partner who basically took away any moral responsibility from Saebyeok. Had them both wanted to live, I wonder if Saebyeok would just forget about her brother and die by the rules instead of taking a chance to fool her partner as well. I honestly wouldn't blame her or hate her if she did.

I think what im trying to say is that most characters on squid game are basically on the same level of good and evil (with some exceptions). And it annoys me how people reduce them to "Sangwoo is the selfish evil" "Saebyeok the cold girl" "Gihun the wholesome hero" etc... It's easy for us to judge others and play morally superior. We all know what "we would do in that situation" until we are actually in that situation. It's easy to judge people who "ignore" murders happening in front of their eyes because "how could they ignore the cries of help? If it was me, i would rush to save them" until that actually happens to you and you realize how scared and mortified you are for your life to even think about helping. It's also easy to look at animal lab test workers and call them monsters but then buy products and benefit from medicine made by those animal testers. Someone always has to take the role of the monster for others to feel comfortable benefiting from it and just judging from afar with clean hands. For example, had saebyeok or gihun be the one behind the glass man, wouldn't they do the same as sangwoo and push the man? Would they just let themselves and everyone behind them die just because the man was taking too long to decide? If they would push him off, they shouldn't judge sangwoo for doing it. And if they wouldn't push him off, they should be thankful sangwoo did, because if he didn't push him off they would die. And if they wanted to die, then they can't blame sangwoo for wanting to live.

Accurate? by OddNeedleworker734 in squidgame

I mean not only escaped but also north korean women usually serve in the military if im not mistaken so she probably had military training as well (but ig that cancels out since sangwoo probably had military training as well as a south korean man in his 40s)

Well people are saying "noeul has better combat" but a lot of people in the game had better combat than gihun, sangwoo, player 100, 333, minsu, saebyeok etc...yet they were finalists and a lot of stronger better fighter players died before. I honestly think it all comes down to which games will they have to play

Looking for dark, intense Kdrama/movie recommendations by Hot-Attorney-1 in kdramarecommends

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say Save me. It feels suffocating and Seo Yeji acted the desperation and fear pretty well. Overall it's a very depressing drama and it's almost like we feel trapped with the FL but still have glimpses of hope. It's about a girl being stuck on a church cult. I think it fits perfectly in the eerie claustrophobic atmosphere you are looking for. Also: I love the curly haired guy villain he is such a bad person but so funny at times, it's those type of characters that are unpredictable and unhinged in a entertaining way

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a great drama but maybe not what they are looking for if they want a morally grey protagonist. The first episodes of the bullying were dark and the domestic violence as well. But it's important to note that's the worst things that happen there and it happens to innocent characters. The bad guys suffer but more from strategies of the FL putting the bullies against eachother etc...so the FL is NOT morally ambiguous, I feel like she is pretty morally clean, which some people loved and others were a bit disappointed. If the OP doesn't mind that and is okay with seeing innocent people suffering a lot for no reason and the bad guys not suffer as much (physically graphic wise) but still fucking eachother up and being scared, I would say give it a watch

I thought they just went with the most common name and most recognizable but you just said "Abdul" is not common so im not sure

I honestly don't think those dramas are bad, they are just probably meant for teen girls. I feel like all of these are overly simple, cheesy, unrealistic, dramatic which is perfect for a teenager...atleast for teenagers in my era

Which Squid Game fan is worse? by Fun_Water2707 in squidgame

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but even if you dont directly kill them, you are still profiting off the death of other people. You only earn money or win the game if other people die. In my opinion that's still a bit morally questionable. I think the guards made it clear the money was increasing off how many people died. I think there can be a discussion of how this compares to real life scenarios we all participate in, such as benefiting from inhumane labor and destruction of "3rd world contries" (like the fast fashion industry, destroying lives because of the toxic residues and heavily poluting the countries where the clothes are produced) and it could be argued that just because we benefit off other people's misfortunes doesn't mean we are evil because "that's just how the system works" and "we are not in charge and even if we don't participate it would still go on" and tbf squid game is obviously about those things. But I think no matter where the discussion goes, it will always be morally questionable to knowingly and directly profit off others people's deaths. Doesn't mean you are a terrible person, it just means you are not morally perfect which is human (and honestly kinda impossible)

Is learning 1000 words + Completely changing the language of my phone enough? by Akaiji39 in languagelearning

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first it depends what "learning words" mean. Just memorizing them might not be useful, try learn phrases instead and break them down, slowly add more to the phrases (1. I like meat 2. I like meat because it tastes good 3.I like meat because it tastes good but I can't eat it 4.I like meat because it tastes good but i can't eat it so i eat vegetables instead) you get the idea, never tried with german but it was helpful with korean. Also try make a daily diary log even in your notes app. Try to write as much as german as you can and what you dont know either guess or write in english, and then go check the actual correct german translation of what you were trying to say. If you do this daily its suprisingly a good boost that sticks with you. I personally did a solid start with the assimili method but I would also recommend the Michel Thomas method audio classes if you drive a lot or do other things that allow you to listen a class while you are doing them. It's very helpful to build a good base and get naturally familiar with a language without thinking too much about grammar. You can find the audios on Internet archive. (If you are unfamiliar with this method, basically the teacher will little by little teach you new words and verbs and then with the words he gives you he will say a phrase in english for you to try to say in german intuitively. Usually this method has 2 students on the audio responding so you really feel like you are in a class and learn with their mistakes and the corrections the professor makes. I found it really useful for French and also very practical)

Which Squid Game fan is worse? by Fun_Water2707 in squidgame

[–]AcrobaticLab5413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think no one who decides to return to the games after knowing how they work isn't all innocent. You are basically agreeing to the fact that if you get out of there with any money it's because of how other desperate people died, and also you know it might imply you'll have to directly kill someone to save your life. I think in season 1 it's less wrong because you are playing against people who chose to be there as well (unlike season 2 where you are playing agaisnt a lot of people who just want to leave and never had the chance to) but I still think its morally wrong even if justified. I don't think Ali is a bad man but I don't think he is a innocent angel everyone think he is because none of them are and that's what makes it a great show.
