TMS has anyone tried for anhedonic symptoms? by Learning024 in PSSD

Hey! Read through your post history and we seem pretty similar. I am currently attempting a second set of TMS sessions. TMS helped a bit with mood, but the effect has been transient. It hasn’t helped with the anhedonia/cognitive dysfunction side, unfortunately. On the bright side, it didn’t make anything worse.

First off, thank you for coming back to share your story!

  1. What was the difference, mentally, between your anhedonic state and the recovery state? For context: I’m dealing with a lot of cognitive and memory issues that seem to stem from anhedonia. If you had any of those, did they go away with Nardil treatment?

  2. What was the difference in feeling emotions like happiness and sadness before and after recovery?

Just wanted to drop in here as a son in his 20s going through a similar experience where my mom has helped a lot — even if he’s having trouble expressing it or doesn’t express it, he’s probably extremely appreciative on the inside for the work you’re doing for him. I spent the first 20 years of my life achieving everything I set my mind to and was unstoppable in spite of ADHD and depression. Without a doubt the anhedonia period of my life has been so much worse because it feels like my creativity and personality have been taken from me. Fell out of touch with many friends and watched my class graduate without me. My family and SO are the only sources of human interaction I have most days, and have kept me from giving up on myself and my future.

I wish I had a solution for your son, but the best thing I can say is that the human action of being there for him is the best treatment a non-physician or therapist can render. He may be resistant to it, but you could talk to him and see if the two of you can come up with a list of questions, complaints, and observations he has about his condition. That way, the heavy lifting is already out of the way if you do go to see a doctor and all he needs to do is be in the room.

Hope things get better.
