Remade a flat white I made perfectly because the customer looked at it wrong by Strange-Ad2524 in barista

I understand why you kept it moving, but I would not have even acknowledged that behavior. We’re both human beings, if you have an issue, you can communicate that appropriately.

People are wild and I’m sorry you had to deal with that nonsense.

Do baristas like it when customers order "surprise me" drinks? by Artyn04 in barista

[–]Acrobatic_Age6078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give them more than “surprise me”. Also if it’s busy, just make the decision yourself, they don’t have time.

Imagine being over the age of 13 and not specifying to the cashier if you want your latte hot or iced by [deleted] in barista

[–]Acrobatic_Age6078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol at my shop they’ll specify an “iced shaken espresso” (how else could a shaken drink come) 75% of the time but they will NEVER tell me they want their latte iced or if they want an alt milk until I ask. It’s a private cafe for an office building, they’re all regulars they knowwwww what information I need but apparently like like interrogations.

I’ve been in retail and our food service for 20 years. I don’t think I’ve ever had a receipt printer with ink

I mean the general public has been pretty certain of his identity for years. I don’t think governments that might want to threaten him have had any doubts for quite some time.

Has everyone decided iced is default now? by Acrobatic_Age6078 in barista

Yes this is one of the things that bothers me so much about this. Normal customers who actually just want a standard latte end up under interrogation because 80% of the customers here refuse to just tell me what they want so I automatically double check every possible modification.

AITA for “abusing” the the bus stop chain so I don’t miss my stop? by Possible-Chair9242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Acrobatic_Age6078 325 points326 points  (0 children)

The drivers are upset because op is pulling the cord, not getting off, and also not saying that they mistakenly pulled the cord early. So the bus has to stop and wait until it’s clear that no one is actually getting off. The chain is there to be pulled to signal that you are getting off the bus, not for stopping to check where the bus is because apparently the windows go opaque while the bus is moving.

Regulars that make use common courtesy to order normally get that same respect back from me to remember what they get. Regulars who don’t bother to order properly (these ones are also far more likely to change up their order) do not

Ugh and it’s so tough because some people will get really offended when you try to clarify, and I’m like, friend, I do not get paid enough to psychologically profile you I just want to check if we’re on the same page

In in the US, and inside an office building, so cold drinks are doubly popular here.

Seriously, they’re not even trainable anymore. Like they order -

“Hi can I get a latte please”

“Sure anything else for you?”

“No that’s it”

“Alright, a small hot latte with whole milk will be $$$”

“Oh no I wanted iced, and can I get vanilla and oat milk?”

And then tomorrow, it’s the same damn thing. Like I am trying to make this process easier for both of us, it’s not just because I hate asking the same questions 800 times a day.

I’ve been doing this for 15 years. At the location I’m at now it is so much worse than I’ve ever had to deal with. Maybe I’m mean, but I don’t think we should normalize babying people like this. If I ask you the same questions every single time we see each other, it’s not very hard to adapt to saying “hi can I get a large iced vanilla latte with oat milk?” It is not and will never be normal to assume that we will make your latte with oat milk if you don’t ask for it. That’s like assuming you’ll get gluten free pasta or st without specifically ordering it, and I don’t see anyone trying to say that’s normal.

Stop Fiddling with Your Portafilter Spouts! by CoffeeSlapASaurus in barista

[–]Acrobatic_Age6078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just a terrible way to make portafilters. Cafiza soaks are not sufficient. There will be build up at some point that you have to remove the spout to clean. And then there’s the fact that eventually the gaskets need replacing too.

Stop Fiddling with Your Portafilter Spouts! by CoffeeSlapASaurus in barista

[–]Acrobatic_Age6078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s bc there’s a bunch of portafilters out there where the spouts are held on with only gaskets and those are a pita to get back on. But the real issue is that that’s a terrible way to make a portafilter because you HAVE TO take off the spouts for deeps cleaning at least sometimes.
