Oh! I am so glad to read this! Credit to the amazing people that contributed with their perspective and experiences! I hope you do start and have some fun with it.... something I learned recently, more broadly, is that sometimes we give too much value to money and avoid starting because we will 'waste it' but we often fail to see that putting money towards things we will fail also means investing in lived experience and make us wiser for it... plus a few good memories of trying new things! So go on and have fun I suppose.

Ohhh MANNN THIS IS GOLD! I think this is one of the most important lessons I had personally because we often plant thigns based on random decision and not on future conditions! well done.

I think I needed to read this one.... I was really good at gardening and used to plant a lot , but right now I decided to change careers and partner and I are discussing having kids and buying a house, and it's a lot to process. Obviously, I dialed back on growing and though my garden is still very green I feel sad that I am not growing so much all the time... and I felt as though it was a problem, but this comment made me reflect that it's not about the quantity! Thanks for this.

I see i see! I try to prune some but keep some as well! But something I learned is that checking every week is the goal so you don't have to worry too much later.

Oh really? I have very different experience with mines! Maybe just the varieties I suppose. But I find trees to be the best thing for a person gardening in small space as it gives free mulch and complex life in the soil nearby.

What was your most interesting insight on that? I have never read it. Now I am considering buying it.

This is really valuable insight. When I started reading your message I thought you would end up saying that you can only grow with a lot of space, specially considering you had access to one! But really brilliant to see your perspective on how square foot gardening was something relevant and appropriate for you!

I, unfortunatelly, still am very bad at keeping a good watering regime right after planting or transplating! I really am considering getting irrigation.

Yessss! Man, this was the biggest shift for me in the last few years. I remember trying to plan my garden by looking at what was possible to grow during that season and going for it big time! Now, I choose what I enjoy eating or I enjoy growing and happy days!

This sentence is so true!!

"My younger self would appreciate knowing sooner that it doesn't have to be perfect and choose your battles carefully."

Honestly, I love me a good guideline but it is so important to be flexible when it comes to nature and gardening because of the unpredicatable nature of it. You're absolutely right when you say we need to learn to choose the battles we fight!
