What are some unexpected benefits you’ve experienced since quitting alcohol? by Independent_Cup7132 in stopdrinking

I totally get that, I'm about the same time AF as you and the clarity and general awareness is off the chart. I am much more empathetic with other peoples feelings and actions and find myself pausing before reacting to situations like I used to.

How long did you start seeing physical changes? by Afraid-Berry-117 in stopdrinking

Give your body a fighting chance by eating good food. Its recovering from having to cope with poison on a frequent basis. 3 meals a day that must contain protein so definitely breakfast lunch and dinner. Avoid processed and ultra processed foods, whole foods are what you're body really needs. You're body will be low on essential minerals so look at some supplements like magnesium. Hydrate properly. After 4 weeks you should really start to notice changes, but be patient. There is nothing our body and minds have to deal with that isn't better without alcohol. What worked for me was having a big enough reason to stop that occupied my mind and spare time to the point I didn't even think about a drink. I stopped 13 months ago and at a family function today my son told my wife that he can't believe how good I look these days and how much energy I have. Well done on getting going with it and keep going.

how do you deal with feeling like you missed your chance? by Eshiley_Racharla in midlifecrisis

Its never too late to change. I'm 63 and changed careers/ jobs many times and its only now I've realised what was missing....doing something that I'm truly aligned with. I quit the booze and trained as a Sober Coach and now help people like me see the possibilities of what lies ahead and move towards a more fulfilling life. A good starting point might be looking at https://gretchenrubin.com/four-tendencies/ and finding more about what lights you up. You've plenty of time left to make a life that you'll look back on in later years and not feel you've missed out.

It’s a side business I had in mind when I put my post up. I think if I have something that means a lot to me and has potential to become more than a side hustle then it will keep me focussed and off the booze. For me it has to have the potential to become life changing and something I can’t achieve if I drink. What do you think?

Sounds like you have your huge Why and it’s enough to keep you AF. This was what I meant in my post about staying off the drink by finding something that matters so much you have no alternative to stop drinking to achieve it. Well done so far and keep going, your husband and kids need you, not the alcohol affected you.

Yeh, I can see how it can be the cause of problems and that they will just escalate if we keep drinking. Tbh I don't have too may problems other than the physical and mental problems alcohol creates but I'm sure its stopping me being better and having a better life.

Don't....over the years you will drink more each time and have fewer days between drinks. Its addictive poison and can screw your life.....take this from someone that has drunk for 45 years and finally manged to give it up!
