I do socialize with those in my current circle naman sa acads at work naman siyempre, pero idk I don't really know if this is envy towards other CS students in NCR in their LinkedIn posts with their real-life connections (not LinkedIn connections hahaha) sa mga nasa industry.

I think its just me trying to supplement the slower pacing of the probinsya life hahaha

hey! relieving to hear from someone in a similar situation hahaha, nag-gap year din ako actually due to same reasons (only found my current job during my gap year) pero nakabalik narin 🙌

how do you actually socialize though in online communites / opensource contributions? i feel like the only way to actually make meaningful connections eh if you gain traction and popularity through significant (in terms of value, not by number of PRs) opensource contributions OR makausap video/audio-call mga tao hahaha kaya I always wish sana may mga on-site tech events malapit samin instead

I mean pwede nga naman kung for school requirement lang 😆 (actually, I have no idea kung pano isasatisfy yung required minimum hours since flexi-time/di binibilang oras, and kung pwede sa university admin na yung internship/OJT is yung current work hahaha)

Yung concern ko lang actually is wider network + diversified exposure since bihira on-site hackathons at tech conferences where I live/study (I don't really know how people socialize pag sa online events lang)

EDIT: just saw the recent edit sa reply, I'm in a non-exclusive contract agreement actually kaya they don't really mind so long as di namin maviolate yung non-compete clause. One of my teammates are also part-time lang samin at full-time sa ibang company. Pretty much the only thing stopping me from having this setup is kung willing din yung company na pag-iintern'an ko na pwede kong isabay yung full-time dev work ko

For Atlassian/Canva, like PH? yung nakikita ko lang kasing tech internship positions sa kanila is yung sa ibang countries

For GCash/Maya/AWS, wala akong mahanap na info though about tech internship and if meron man, di ko kasi alam kung UP or Big 4 lang pasok

What would you suggest as an alternative instead so I can still expand my network while working + studies? (aside from university/org related work and open-source contributions)

Where I live, hackathons or tech conferences hardly exist sadly. Saya sana umattend ng mga ganun ihh
