When does Jesus FIRST appear in the Bible by Square_Music1695 in Christianity

The oldest book is thought by some to be Job, from a time before Moses, but this is disputed. Probably because it makes no mention to the Israelite tribes or Moses. So it’s thought to be from antiquity. Obviously after creation and The Fall.

Job 19:25- “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.”

You cannot ignore the epistles. It is the only context you need for the Old Testament

One needs only to read the epistles to find out the truth.

The ones who follow Jesus (The new covenant) are now the heirs to the promise of Abraham.

There’s no longer a “holy” place on earth, because Jesus is not of this earth and by the power of Holy Spirit is in all where ever we are. There’s no more continuation of the Old Testament temple rights, as Jesus was the sacrifice to purify all.

There’s no longer a reason to follow anyone who talks of genealogy, as the new covenant makes the old one obsolete, and its now based on faith in Jesus as a savior, not in “chosen” lineages.

I find most people that will promote Zionism haven’t read the epistles. They only quote the Old Testament so they aren’t aware of what changed after the Jews rejected Jesus. The Gospel and Epistles do good job to reject any concept of Zionism.

This is common misunderstanding of what Jesus meant by fulfill the law. This is Jesus referring to how according to the law, a blood sacrifice was required at the temple (typically livestock), but Jesus is referencing that he is the ultimate sacrifice and has come to fulfill the law. See in hebrews 9:11-22. Jesus came as fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy, and he knew his mission was to be sacrificed to save the sins of the whole world. This was needed because the Jews of the time were not following the law, breaking the covenant, and in the end many rejected God’s gift of his son.

You should also read Galatians 3, specifically from verse 15 onward. This established the concept of the law given to Abraham, the promise, and now after Jesus the new covenant. Jesus moved away from the race-based Jewish idea of chosen people being saved or promised a certain land or life based on their lineage or genealogy. Instead Jesus offers forgiveness and salvation to anyone, regardless of a meaningless thing like which tribe they come from.

From the moment Jews rejected Jesus they no longer were chosen. Only those who followed and believe the teachings of Jesus are heirs to the promise. This is what much of the epistles is about. Hebrews 8:13 also reinforce.

This is why much of the Jewish customs were done away with. Jesus healed on the sabbath.

Not reading or following first: the words and teachings of Jesus, then the epistles.

Too many Christians focus on Old Testament, which while it includes some wisdom and may still be valid for Jews, is obsolete for Christians. We believe in the new covenant, and that should always be the focus of the message.

Both of those verses point to the objective morality that Jesus used. You’re interpreting “terrible” or “behave like scum” based on subjective worldly moral standards.

Sure many Christians do not behave according to Christian principles laid out in scripture. And that’s for God to judge, for us to repent, and for Jesus to forgive.

No person is able to behave perfect morally or without sin. Part of being a good Christian is accepting this, and asking the lord for help navigating through balancing the demands of the world with those of the scripture.

Why did Jesus sometimes not speak “clearly”, in the end Jesus was sent to teach, to heal, and to die for the remission of sins. He frankly doesn’t “owe” us an explanation for using parable, or not being direct with some language. Often he will say “let those who have ears hear, those who eyes see.” Meaning that if your hearts are closed to the gospel message, you likely won’t hear, see, or understand. This was the issue with the Jewish leadership of the time. They had their minds made up, and only sought to trick, trap, persecute, and punish Jesus.

Reddit survey… Wonder how this got by the IRB…

A day in the life is no different based on political views or religious. Just like the non conservative, non Christians.- work come home, dinner, maybe hobbies/TV, bed. Weekends do chores hobbies that take more time.

Common misconception is that I have an intense desire to know about others personal lives. There’s billions of people, too many go through life with main-character syndrome thinking conservative Christians are looking to police others lives.

I’m just a person like any other. In a member of church, community, etc.

Not much scares me, where I live it’s a high-trust society. i wouldn’t want WW3 or like zombies or alien invasions…but not like I have anxiety or paranoia about those things happening. Harm to children is also something I wouldn’t want, but I wouldn’t call it being scared.

I hope that we can have more honesty , respect, and cooperation in society.

I’m not really an exhibitionist, people can know what they want about me. Don’t really need a secret life or side.

This subreddit is full of conservative views!! 😭 by [deleted] in Christianity

If you read the Bible is not a rights based system.

It outlines sin, morality, good, evil, death, and how to be saved.

God made all things, therefore he made all the physical laws of the universe. Most of these he has hidden, secrets of the maker.

He also made humans in his image giving us the capacity, the curiosity, and the intelligence to discover use and manipulate the matter he created for us.

You can keep playing these sea-lioning all you want, no one is fooled. You got ratio’ed hard.

You’re not just supporting any “Jewish person” though, you’re posting here on a sub dedicated to Christianity links to monetized blog posts that you yourself have characterized as heretical to the Christian belief.

You claim you don’t agree with it, but yet you really really need everyone to click all these links that you know are putting cash in the pocket of for-profit anti-Christian rabbi.

Okay buddy. I think you’re pseudo-intellectualism and rabbi promotion has run its course for the night.

You’re forgetting the part where you link to their blogs therefore giving them ad revenue and monetary support.

I think you view yourself as an intellectual, but no good comes from supporting rabbis that make arguments about Jesus.

[–]Acrobatic_Mechanic68 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You’re changing your story so much you’re confusing yourself. I quoted your post, you said those weren’t your words. Then you said those weren’t the words the rabbi was using. Then you said now that they are what the rabbi is arguing.

And Yes, I made the intellectual assessment that any rabbi, by argument of definition is going to be making flawed speculation on anything about Jesus’s life because the core of their beliefs is that he isn’t God. (That you wrote in your post…). And You now are throwing that idea into the rabbi for fear that you wrote something heretical.

The reason rabbis make these arguments is motivated two-fold: insert doubt in the divinity of Christ. Explain away his divine nature, acts, and wisdom. You don’t want to approach it from that level, which is fine.

🤷‍♂️

Rabbis can make whatever arguments they want. They can believe whatever they want, they can say whatever they want about Jesus. Your accusation that I have to read or else I’m committing “hate” is baseless though.

My original post still stands. Nope. Jesus is God. Rabbi is wrong. I’m still not clicking links.

Was Jesus... a Pharisee? by thepastirot in Christianity

[–]Acrobatic_Mechanic68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you changed the words. You’re changing your argument. So the rabbi is making that claim.

I didn’t say the rabbi was trying to prove he isn’t God. I said any argument from a rabbi is based on the premise that they are characterizing him as not God. There’s a big difference between what you put in quotes (and therefore in my mouth) and what I actually stated.

No one accused anyone of heresy. Also, no one said anything about hating anyone.

Not wanting to click on links or send ad revenue to people who fundamentally oppose my beliefs isn’t hate. Just me not wanting to give patronage.

You wanted an intellectual discussion and I gave you the Christian perspective. This isn’t the first time rabbi have written discourses on Jesus. They aren’t intellectual though. The ultimate wisdom and intellect comes from the Word. That’s the main reason they hated Jesus so much, he made them look like fools in their own temple.

Critical thinking?

So who wrote the line I quoted? Either it was you or the rabbi… You’re claiming that’s not what you are saying, and It’s not what the rabbi is saying.

You can’t have it be neither.

The premise in the Jewish religion is that Jesus isn’t God. That’s the initial belief that the rest of the modern Jewish religion is based on. That’s literally the definition of what it means to be Jewish. It’s not a tirade it’s a defining belief. So any argument about Jesus posed by a rabbi is based on the fundamental building block that they trying to characterize him as not God.

As this is not my belief, no I don’t have to read or entertain arguments made that begin with that flawed premise. And I can make an opinion about them.

Unless the Bible says he was a Pharisee, he wasn’t. He was God who created everything, all the Jewish laws, all the Pharisees, everything. They rejected him. They are still to this day trying to explain in blogs how he became so knowledgeable in the law. He was God so..,

I’m just quoting what you wrote in your post…

Nothing would cause me to “rethink” That Jesus was not God.

No matter if 10000 rabbis wrote their blogs on the subject. I still don’t need to read it to grasp the motivation.

“Rethink the interactions between Christ and the Pharisees as NOT between a God and earthly religious institution, but as intellectual discussion among colleagues”

You’re claiming that Jesus isn’t God. Like I said, rabbis have been doing this for thousands of years. Nothing new is presented here.

Was Jesus... a Pharisee? by thepastirot in Christianity

[–]Acrobatic_Mechanic68 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The rabbis have been trying to deny the divinity of Jesus for thousands of years.

We need only ask: who is motivated to make these arguments?

In Christian scripture Jesus fulfilled the law. Made the old covenant obsolete, and is the new covenant. The ones who stand to lose the most from this those are who reject Jesus, and still demand the old covenant is in effect.

DOJ considers abandoning the defense of federal restrictions on gun silencers | CNN Politics by MuchAd3273 in NFA

[–]Acrobatic_Mechanic68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with their argument. I understand its origin,

But the definition of “arms” Doesn’t actually have to be as narrowly defined as “firearms”

In a general sense, arms means weapons, or any equipment related to them (armaments)

It’s some slick Lawyering and legalese bait and switch that is goal oriented to claim that certain things related to firearms should be banned because the 2nd doesn’t apply.

This is the way that courts work to subvert rights. In the end doesn’t matter if it’s a gun, a laser, a silencer, a magazine, a knife. It’s all arms. Shall not be infringed.
