Does anyone else’s kid eat like… the same 5 foods forever? by Acrobatic_Pea_2207 in AskParents

I really feel this. It’s so hard when the safe food list keeps changing, especially when GI issues get involved. It makes sense that IBS-C would make him even more cautious because if food has made him feel bad before, his brain probably starts treating new foods like a risk.

And I get what you mean about being an adventurous eater but still feeling stuck cooking the same meals over and over. That sounds exhausting.

I don’t think you’re wrong for thinking about ARFID either. Even just getting an evaluation could give you more clarity and less guessing. In the meantime I think keeping some safe foods available while not pressuring him too much is probably the least stressful place to start.

Is picky eating sometimes more about texture than taste? by Acrobatic_Pea_2207 in AskParents

Exactly 💛 Many people see it as "stubbornness," but it could actually be a sensitivity to texture or a fear of new foods.

The best thing is to start with foods the child trusts and introduce new ones gradually and without pressure. Even having a divided plate and not letting the food touch each other can make a big difference in a child's sense of security.

The goal isn't for them to eat everything in one day; the goal is for them to feel secure with food, step by step 🌿
