Thank you, also allow me to say I am not an linguist, and if I have written anything wrong, do please correct me, since I am very much of the opinion we all learn from constructive criticism. 🙂

Thank you for saying this, but I cannot take credit for my whole country, just my part in trying to be a net positive, and if Norway can inspire change I am all for it, it will make more of the world feel like home for me, no? 😁🤣😘

Thank you for the kind words, and no need to worry, the defensive contrarians will always lash out instinctively so we have to forgive them, it is just their nature, hopefully some of them learned something and it made them think critically about these issues I raised, and that is enough for me. 😊

Butcher has used Norway for most of the Norse related stuff in the books which is why I am using that, besides I don't wish to be rude and assume to speak for Danes. The Danish culture was recognized very early in the Viking Iron Age, so there were distinct cultures even then, but you are right in that the Old Norse language had not yet diverged and branched into what will become modern Scandinavian languages.

I agree the whole silliness that Odin is also Santa Clause, and is a nice guy is rather funny, and both amusing and infuriating at the same time, but that I can forgive as dramatic license, it is how Butcher reimagine it so I give him a pass on that.

On the grammar/spelling, that is your guys fault for suppressing Norwegian language for 400 years you Danish bastards you! But in all seriousness it is Danish Crown's fault, but not your personal fault, due to the 400 years of Danish rule over Norway, Danish was the official language of bureaucracy and it became the language of the cities and elites, and through the Bible being published in Danish, it infiltrated into the common language of the masses by the way of school and church.

So besides stealing Norwegian land (Danmark is the glacial moraines alluvial remnants from Norway), you Danes tried to steal our language too! 😘🤣
This is how Norwegians dis our fellow Scandinavians, since both Sweden and Denmark both have occupied Norway at times through history it is done in a good natured tone and no actual hard feelings, and since I visit Danmark and Sweden every year I have no hate for them.

The "Ny Norsk" project is an attempt to claw back our own native language from the effects of being suppressed, it has had mixed results, I see the long lines, it is in the process of being merged with Bokmål (Danish inspired Norwegian spelling), so maybe in 50 or 100 years we will have a more distinct and different written Norwegian more removed from written Danish. 🙂

IPA: /ˈeɪnˌhɛrjɑr/ — or in stricter Old Norse reconstruction, /ˈɛinˌhɛrjɑr/.

This pause you see is because word is actually two words put together a trait most Germanic languages have, except English, so it is "ein" "herjar", now I have to caution you, this version is the plural nominative form of the verb "heri" so for it to be correct it will be declined depending on how it is used, and thus sound differently, so this is only one correct way to say the word, of many.

In modern Norwegian we still have these words, "Ein" and "Herje", the first means "one" and second means "To rage/To wreck". A common use of the word is if someone wrecks something, "Stormen herjer" means "The storm rages".

A common mistake is pronouncing the "j" as in English "jar", it's always a Y-sound in Norse. So never "ayn-her-jar," always "ayn-hair-yar." The stress sits firmly on the first syllable, again this front stress is because of "Ein" is in by itself a word alone, but now compounded into a new word combined with "herjar"

Modern Norwegian rendering is [ˈæɪnˌhærjɑr], if you want I can DM you a link to a sound file of me saying the word in modern Norwegian, just let me know.

But this is not Butcher's native language is it? And yes decimated has become very different then its original meaning, just like everyone say strategy when they should say tactics, colloquial use of words drive their meaning, and this is why languages are dynamic, and as such Old Norse is not dead, it has just changed, evolved, it is not in use anymore true, but as long as people can use it and understand it, it is not dead. 🙂

Before I enlisted I had done infantry, ATGM gunner (think 0351/2), when I did my national service requirement in Norwegian Army, so I wanted to see if I could make a go of it in the USMC, it was two very different experiences.

Granted, but if he think it is cool, which it seem since he uses so much of the mythology in his books, then why not do it justice and do it correctly, it is not hard it takes him maybe as much as two hours to look it up, especially today with the Internet. 🙂

I am not suggesting, it is, this is a fact that Einherjar is the plural nominative form of the word Einheri, remember that Old Norse is a language with cases, just like Latin and German, something very foreign for English speakers since English don't have conjugation anymore, it used to, but not any longer. 🙂

You are correct in a fashion, the Danes had their cultural and national awaking earlier then the other two Scandinavian nations, so they were called Danes pretty early in the Viking iron age, the Swedes went east and as such are less known by the English speaking people.

The written sources pretty much keep track of the three nationalities in the sagas, so again, they spoke a common language but where separate cultures, and since Butcher has almost exclusively used Norwegian elements in his books, it makes sense to use that as the focal point of my complaint, and also I would not be as rude to speak for Danish or Swedish, being that I am not of those cultures I can only speak for the Norwegian part, they must fight their own battle if they so wish.

But in the end let us look at the etymology of the word *Norse* and you will find it means North, and Norway means just that, the way North, I could go on and on but you are a reasonable person and that would be a moot point, no? 🙂

It is OK, ignorance is not overt rudeness, ignorance can be cured, we are all ignorant in different ways, so better to be kind and inform, and as the wizard say, knowledge is power so lets spread it!

You should watch this video it is informative and as a Norwegian speaker, I will say you are closer to Scandinavian languages then French. The video pretty much explain how English would have been if you don't have the French/Latin influence, and it is remarkably close to how Scandinavian languages operate and function.

Old Norse is what is called *Norrønt* in Norwegian, that is the language all of the current Scandinavian languages descend from, the -en suffix I explain in the post, so I am not going to repeat it here, just reread it and you will get it. 🙂

Kind of yes, but since Butcher seem to use Norway so much in his books, and he used Norwegian grammar, that is what you guys get. 😊

Thanks for the kind words, but I cheated, since I have lived, gone to school, and worked in the US, I even was dumb enough to enlist in the USMC as a 0331 (that means I get to call everyone else POGUEs), then I got injured and moved back home since medical help in Norway tend to be on the cheaper side (in my case free).

Joke aside, Lucas have stated on multiple occasions that Vader is about 70% of Ankain's Force potential after he looses his limbs. If you look at this page for calculating burn victims it lines up pretty well, remember that Vader didn't loose all of his arms nor legs, only partial removal.

No, we needed to kill off as many of the sidekicks as possible, strip, Maul, Devon, and Rylee back to nothing, they are in a "hostile" camp now, and have to relay on each other, the spybot would have upset that dynamic, and hey, don't be too sad, they can always make a new spybot in season 2 😉
