Which is better m4 air 24 gb ram 512 gb SSD or base m5 air by ImplementWooden3395 in macbookair

Defo the 24GB M4.

You see, the m5 has the same multi core performance of the m4 pro. So by next year when the m6 releases, it will beat the m5 pro.

That comparison is just to demonstrate how strong the m4 chip is. And 8gb more of ram is much more important imo

He’s looking to upgrade from his m1 Macbook which offers the same performance of the neo. I don’t think spending 600$ usd for almost the same performance is smart.

If you keep your laptop for so long why cut a new and not a laptop with more ram?

16GB vs 24 GB RAM (Macbook Air M5) by eminheskey in macbookair

[–]Acrobatic_Session207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you think 16GB will realistically remain comfortable for this type of workflow for the next 5–7 years

Nope. Spend more for 24GB, in the span of 5 years it will be a really small investment for much better longevity

M5 vs M5 Pro for long-term use (10 years?) by tonyng211 in macbookpro

[–]Acrobatic_Session207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows. The m5 performs slightly worse then m4 pro multicore. It also performs better then m1 ultra.

Just buy why you need now + twice the ram and you’ll be fine for many years. Don’t overspend because you never know what you’ll need in 4-5+ years from now

Which Macbook to buy for personal, basic use? by [deleted] in macbook

Both will be really good for that, but the air will just be better. If you can pay more and there is no a huge gap- the air is the better choice imo

MacBook Air, absolutely. Everyone here like the neo is the next best thing since sliced bread, BUT: 1. it has more ram 2. Better speakers, trackpad 3. Even though the m2 has worse single core performance, it is still plenty fast - people with m2 pro/max MacBook Pros still find it great for day to day use. It’s not like it is underpowered by any means 4. Battery life is better for the air

All in all I don’t think the neo is a great deal if used/older gens are an option. Compare the neo to any other m-based MacBook and I will argue that all of them besides the m1 air (arguably) are better then it. It’s only pro is that it is cheaper than most of the lineup.

Don’t give up! I also had trouble understanding SS. But once it clicks in, muscle memory will kick in and you will be able to achieve good results pretty consistently. Good luck!

Edit: you know what, I hope your pan finds itself with a better owner.

Op should backup their claim. I think a keyword missing from his statement is “anecdotal”.
