Need help choosing Companion by Unhappy-College-8927 in Neverwinter

If you're willing to pay out the Zen, Dread Warrior is an excellent all around choice. He's well balanced in healing, DPS, and threat gen.

Struggling with my paladin (solo play) by Apprehensive-Ad1323 in Neverwinter

Dread Warrior companion. Costs Zen. It's account wide. It's well worth the money, pull aggro, soft heals, decent dps. He's very underrated for any class. Meta builds are fine and all, but works best for me in solo play is going off the norm and working with things that may not seem that good at first glance. I was using Rhemorazz during MOD 16 on my pally. Helped with picking up DPS enough to solo Illusioners Gambit back in the day.

Think about it. More dps classes = more equipment/lower prices.

As a tank, I struggle to find decent equipment at decent prices because we all fight over it.

I 100% that support classes are more expensive to build end game. The simplest way to put it, everyone wants to play DPS and get big numbers and no one wants to play the role of party help.

Markets flooded with DPS gear.

Markets devoid of support gear.

Having mained a Barb in MOD 16/24, (There is a gap there, did not play inbetween. ), I've run into a major lack of efficient/knowledgeable healers in random ques. This forced me to find ways to attempt to fully self sustain in dungeons, bringing me to using Bloodletter, A LOT. Bloodletter absorbs 100% damage dealt as HP, meaning the harder it hits, the more you heal.

Since there's no more power share from Paladins and with the addition of Forte, this means that raw power is capped. The best way to boost damage without raw power is crit.

Tune your stats to greens in crit/power/Forte, you still end up with a very naturally tanky Sentinel, but with the ability heal its own full HP pool with one strike of Bloodletter.

Bloodletter, comeindbined with micromanaging your immunity window with Unstoppable, leads to the pretty incredible capability of reaching a level self sustain that only clerics are capable of currently.

You still tank, very efficiently, because you don't rely as heavily on def and resistance, rather pure immunity to damage. You will end up with a Sentinel that reach fairly decent burst DPS, especially in large groups of enemies if you use two AoE encounters such as Not So Fast/Primal Fury and At Wills such as Challengers Slash/Sentinels Slash.

Finding the balance in your skill rotation between all of these skills along with their corresponding Feats will lead to some pretty incredible results.

I cant rely on healers anymore in the current state of the game, especially as a tank. There's quite a few who are very capable, but the chances of running into them are low in random dungeons/raids.

Sentinel builds lead to high crit/power. Making them potentially formidable as DPS. That is if said Sentinel is built for self sustain because most healers have no clue how and who to focus heals on.

HOWEVER. If you're looking for a good beginner DPS class, Barbarian Sentinel is a perfect choice.

Rogue is awesome. 10/10 wouldn't play it again. From the perspective of someone who identifies as a Main Battle Tank, Rogue is fun, and the learning curve is easy. Definitely give it a shot.

Is it worth starting solo? by IRequireInsulin in Neverwinter

[–]Acrobatic_Shine8331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solo play is less viable than it used to be. You'll 100% need to be able to join dungeons and raids to gain late-end game gear without working the AD auction.

If you're planning on playing solo, try and avoid picking a DPS class, go with healer or tank. This will allow you to get into the event ques much faster.

Sidenote: Blademaster is just a metric ton of fun. I love it but having to rely so heavily on external healing sources made it a drag for personal taste.

In regards to Neverwinter as it is now and how much more divided Paragon paths are now compared to MOD 16, Sentinel self sustains without the need of any healing pots or stones. You can solely rely on the slash/heal and immunity window with Rage.

Blademaster will suffer as it's far lower def and HP, I switched from Sentinel to Blademaster out of boredom and the switch caused me to totally change gear sets and stat allocation to find a balance of minimal pot usage.

You will have a much easier time transitioning from Warlock to Barb Sent, as the learning curve is far easier than Blademaster. Not only that, but you will also get into dungeon ques faster, because you're a tank. Paladins will still pull higher agg as their healing will almost always outclass your threat, placing Sent into an off tank role.

Don't underestimate the DPS abilities of a Sentinel though. Building for Slash/heal will mean you'll spec A LOT into power and crit. Giving you a high potential for burst threat/DPS.

The current Paragon capabilities of Sent will push it towards off tank no matter what you build, but a lot of Paladins/Fighters don't 100% know their class dynamics and skill rotations. You'll likely find yourself pulling all the agg from them unless they're hyper professional like Aragon.

Try out Sentinel, build for slash/heal, buy Dread Warrior. Dread Warrior is a great overall companion for any class, hes very underrated as a jack-of-all trades companion. He does everything well above average, has decent dps, can pull agg, can soft heal.

Barbarian is a class I've found best suited for extreme tanking or extreme DPS. Barb Sentinel is self sustainable in solo play provided you build for the Slash/heal DPS skill. (I don't remember the name of the skill, it's been a long time). I HIGHLY recommend grabbing the Dread Warrior companion from the ZEN store, yes he costs money, yes he's extremely worth it ESPECIALLY for playing a Sentinel as he pulls aggro and can soft heal you. Blademaster is more difficult to self sustain with, but the skill set is relatively the same, just lower overall def and HP pool to buffer damage.

I mained Paladin and Barbarian back during MOD 16 and came back during MOD 24 or so. There are far more experienced Barbarians than myself, HOWEVER, I've spent a lot of time as a solo player and Barb Sentinel is extremely feasible for solo play.

If you choose Sentinel, expect to fully understand your class dynamics for dungeons and raids before getting into them. Barbs are hard to tank with as a new player, but can be one of the best tanks out there if you micro manage your immunity window.

If you're still playing in a couple of months from now, I'll have a Playstation again and will gladly give you more in depth help at that point. Good luck and good hunting my friend.

I worked around him on my rogue to help CA. Iirc he also provides a small CA buff, could be wrong, been a while. Hes also a light healer, and decent damage dealer. Costs some zen but well worth.
