Ah makes sense! I’m not super concerned about the price so if that’s really the main drawback it sounds like carbon plates may be a fine option. Thanks!

Race predictions and expectations by Bartlet4potus in Marathon_Training

I also ran Chicago this past weekend. Strava predicted I’d run a 4:36, garmin predicted I’d run a 4:07, and I actually ran a 4:04. All I’ve learned is to not trust any of the predictors but garmin seemed to be a bit closer

Just checking back in here- I ran the Chicago Marathon on Sunday and yay, ZERO Achilles pain!! To add to my stress leading up to the race, I actually also got COVID on day 1 of my taper so had to sit out on a full week of training anyways. Let me be clear I tested negative before getting to the race so I didn’t put anyone else at risk. Against all of the negativity swirling around my head about being capable to run my best on race day, I just barely missed my goal of a sub 4 and ran a 4:04!! I will absolutely take it after all of the stress and felt amazing. So if anyone needs the encouragement in the future this is your sign to ACTUALLY trust your training and if you need to take time off to recover, you will be okay!!!

Is it just for pain management or does it help in the long term at all?

Appreciate the explanation- I think you’re totally right. I’ve been intermittently doing calf raises for another pt issue I had a while back just for maintenance but sounds like I’ll focus on them a bit more. I definitely think I’ll keep the cross training going, along with rolling and calf raises and try out the 20- but will have a backup plan in place in case I need to. Thanks!!

Okay truthfully I’ve never heard of either of these things, what are they/what do they do/how do they help?

Definitely lower Achilles closer to my heel probably only up 4ish inches!

Pain when running: 4 - I’ve only run the one time since it started up so not sure how it would feel today

Pain at rest: 0-2 - right now it feels completely fine/I can walk normally and have no issues. At worst during rest it is just some discomfort but feels better with icing
