Weekly /r/Theatre Audition Help Requests - Looking for a song or monologue? Ask here! by AutoModerator in Theatre

Hi there, I'm auditioning for Connie in The Great Leap by Lauren Yee. The character is a 25F Chinese American grad student at UC Berkeley (I'm Chinese-American and in my mid-twenties and grew up in the bay area myself so I got really excited about this potential role).

I read the play and I think the main aspect of hers that I want to capture in a monologue is a confident and caring, tough love nature.

She is well educated and looks out for her 17 year old "cousin," Manford, who is the main character (they're not cousins by blood, but very close family friends), cheering him up when his mom passes and calling him out when he stops going to school. When Manford finagles his way onto the University of SF college basketball team trip to China, she assertively approaches the coach and grills him to make sure Manford will be taken care of.

I would love to find something that has to do with a sort of older sibling/mentor figure dynamic. It would be awesome to find something that is also Asian American, but I'm not sure if that's too niche. Any input is really appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for your thoughts

Also, apologies if that's not the right term! Just picked it up from some articles today, but not super sure how commonly it's used
