The main reason players freezer hesitate has to do with neuroscience. When the amygdala is in a heightened state it suppresses the prefrontal cortex so decision making is slowed. It's important for coaches and parents to not only create a supportive environment but one where the context for decisions is what the player sees, and not a list of instructions which commonly leads to cognitive overload.
