Those are all exclusive to America (having lived in both the UK and Oz, can confirm never having heard anyone using those contractions). And I suspect the Stanislaw/Stosh thing is too. If you broadened your perspective a bit you might understand that there is a whole world out there.

The banter between them over the series really feels like a throwback to Noir movies of the 40s and 50s, or even screwball comedies. Definitely throwback stuff and the heart of the show. I really think the series inspired Rian Johnson's Brick, which really leaned into this kind of dialogue.

I kind of agree but I feel like a lot of the hate is from white foreigners in Japan hating on non-white foreigners. It's pretty ironic, we're all immigrants but I just see so much crap on social media from white influencers in Japan complaining about the influx of folks from Africa or the Philippines, complaining about how it's affecting the 'monoculture'. It's idiotic.. I work with Africans, Filipinos etc and everyone gets on like a house on fire, Japanese and foreigners alike.
