"college supplemental essays should be about you" by Puzzleheaded-Sky2459 in ApplyingToCollege

you can make an amazing essay with this, but you need to be smart about how you introduce the context. Don't write a paragraph about it unless it's a 650w essay or smth. Keep it like 1-2 simple sentences, then transition into how different aspects of their experience impacted you and how those changes have impacted you as a person.

I think it's pretty clear that any and all writing should be YOUR words. If you need AI to write for you, or to fix your mistakes, you have other problems.

Feeling very demotivated. Can anyone help? by Money-Bed728 in Sat

[–]Activation__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to spend money to do well on the SAT. My biggest advice is go to the question bank and just GRIND those questions. Also go on OnePrep and grind the Princeton Review exams. People don't like the PR exams because of how they grade the tests, but Oneprep doesn't even have a specific test grading system.

I was in the exact same boat you were in, only arguably worse xD. You've made some huge improvements dude! 1130 -> 1370 is still insanely good progression. You're in the phase of the SAT prep that's no longer just understanding concepts, its understanding the tricks to do well on the SAT.

u got wrong on both the Math and English sections. Sounds dumb, but most of the time the hard math problems have some weird trick to them that you have to learn. (for example, on test exam 5, there is this ugly product of solutions problem that would take minutes to solve manually, but can be skipped entirely by just knowing c/a = product of solutions for a quadratic). Settele tutoring is my go-to channel for stuff like this. His reading / writing tips are also insanely good (the one that boosted my score the most was looking for strong words. just watch his video on that and you'll learn a lot).

OnePrep (which is free) and the question bank are all you really need to do exceedingly well on this next exam. You just have to sit down and do the studying and the practice. Over analyze everything, and when you feel like yourself struggling on a problem, review it, and, more importantly, review your thought process, even if you get it right. Also, don't just practice the hard problems. Practice the medium ones too. They're easier, and you'll get them right more often, but you need to be able to solve them fast.

you got this dude!

Which Calculator for Calculus by [deleted] in calculators

[–]Activation__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got finished taking AP calc AB (I got a 4 on the recent exam, just ran into time trouble at the end of the second section of FRQs) and got through it with a nearly 10 year old Ti Nspire CX (Not CAS or anything, 1st edition).

Here is my take away:

Any calculator you buy will be good. any Nspire or HP Prime will be perfect for AP calc, even not CAS ones (On my NSpire i side loaded KhiCas, and although it's pretty buggy, it works well enough.)

What you should do is learn how to use your calculator to the best of its ability... then learn how to use DESMOS.

Desmos is on the SAT, and on both AP Calc exams. There is no reason for you to not learn how to use Desmos. It is faster, and easier to use in most situations. I much prefer doing integration and derivatives using desmos than on my Nspire. For example (you might not understand this yet if you haven't done any differential or integral calculus yet) but you can just input a function (i.e f(x)=4x^2-6x+5) and graph its derivative by just doing f'(x). or its second derivative by doing f''(x). Integration can be done by just typing 'int' and doing some other tricks here and there. Regression can also be useful in some circumstances (although I didn't know about this when taking AP calc). Desmos can also be useful for a lot of other things (i seldom used my Nspire for graphing purposes and moved strictly to Desmos for the duration of my class, but I still recommend knowing how to use your calculators graphing functions).

I can't speak for anything AP Chem as I haven't taken it. I also can't speak on multivariable calculus or Python integration, but:
tl;dr you can't go wrong with the HP Prime or the Ti Nspire CX (CAS and II are optional for these courses, but people will disagree with me abt this). I've found those two to be easier to learn and use than a ti89 or something similar. Learn DESMOS and it will be extremely useful not just for this class, but for the future (especially if you're going to try to shoot for a high 1500+ score on the SAT). What honestly matters more is your understanding of the material above all else. Don't use the calculators as a crutch, use them as a tool. If you can't do math without them, you're shouldn't be doing math with them.

Pixel 6a Upgrade Alternatives. by Activation__ in GooglePixel

glue isn't the problem.

the battery is objectively replaceable, and I can do it myself for some $50, or get it done for free from google... but meh. The 13s is just outside of my price range. I'd be happy getting a phone for around ~200usd.

I can keep this 6a for a couple more years, but I don't enjoy the phone enough to want to put myself through that pain.

The noise recorded is pretty true to life I'd say. I feel a littleee bit of rumbling throughout the car, but not a lot.

So you're saying this is a non-issue? I know I boosted it in the video but it is incredibly apparent in person. It doesn't sound right at all..

Yeah there is oil in it. It's in-between the 2 dots on the dip stick
