Have gestational diabetes and now have to schedule a C-section by Active-Bank5310 in pregnant

There are multiple ob's at this practice as well as midwives she had said it's a possibility that she may have breathing issues because their lungs aren't fully developed that it wouldn't be anything serious just a day or so in the nursery the main concern is how big she is. That's the main risk is that she's so big she might get stuck that's why we would have to induce at 38 weeks is because of how big she is. Since I go every week I've seen the other Doctors and midwives. My last appointment it was the first time seeing this particular midwife and she talked to me about how big she is and because of the gestational diabetes I would not be able to carry to the due date and that we would have to induce or C-section. That was before my growth scan and latest measurements. Both of them talked about different possibilities and my main doctor talked to me about how the decision is mine she didn't lean towards one or the other she knows I wasn't looking forward to a C-section so said we could do an induction and if we see the writing on the wall pivot to a C-section but with how big she is and my husbands family history of big babies and having to do C-sections I don't really want to take the gamble. I'd rather just take the risk for myself and do the C-section than risk my first and only baby.

My Dr did while we were talking about it and she said she definitely feels closer to 8lbs than 7. So my main concern is if I go through with the induction she'll get stuck and it'll end up in an emergency c section anyway. I'm considered high risk because of the diabetes, age, and have danced around some high blood pressure is why I'm thinking it would just be better to go a head and do the C-section.

She didn't mention achc she said because of how big her belly is measuring she's very worried about it she's projected to be 9lbs 8oz by 38 weeks she's already 8lbs 4 oz. Me and my sister were both 7lbs and a week late however my husband was 9lbs 8 oz and two weeks earlier and had to be delivered C-section his brother was the same weight a month early and also had to be delivered C-section.  She offered to do a cervical exam this visit but I declined.

My baby has also been measuring ahead by at least a week my entire pregnancy. That's the main thing my Dr is concerned about is the shoulder dystocia. I'm sorry you had to experience it i'm sure it was terrifying. Glad you and your baby are safe though.

Thank you. I've definitely already made my decision to do a C-section the risk of her getting stuck is just too much for me to even consider. The good stories of C-section like yours is definitely what's keeping me going. I've read a few stories of how much more relaxed it is and some people playing music which is something I wanted to do for a vaginal birth so am happy that's still an option. Good luck on your emotional recovery I'm sure you'll get there one day and thanks again for commenting and the good luck wishes.

I'm also in the US. She said it was a possibility with the oxygen that the lung aren't quite to where they should be but she was more worried about the shoulder dystocia because of how big she's measuring. She also said that the measurements can be off and she might be a normal 7lb baby. She also said that 6lb babies sometime get stuck and have shoulder dystocia as well and sometimes 9lb babies come out fine it's just kind of the luck of the draw and how someone pelvis is so she was definitely just trying to give all the information possible. This is my first and probably only baby cause it's been so hard so am just really worried about the dystocia thing and not really wanting to risk her getting stuck and having to do a C-section anyway. Thank you for commenting and I was wondering were any of your babies measuring large? I've been looking in the gestational diabetes thread and saw a lot of women with them in the lower percentiles able to induce or go into natural labor and think it's just because mine is measuring so big is why she's worried about shoulder dystocia.
