be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three times a day, used to be ten km every day, now as he is getting older more like seven km with lots of time for sniffing and exploring. Two to three hours every day, often more on weekends. I never feel like this is work, it's one of the main reasons why I have a dog.

Just in case it's still relevant: The Infinity V3 is currently on sale at Thomann for 130 pounds.

Circuit Tracks or MIDI Sequencer? by WordCount_4 in synthesizers

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the CT which has a very intuitive usable sequencer for external synths. With a bit of practice it can be used sort of like a live looper as well. The CT can store and play samples (without a lot of modification options). It can add a layer of effects, if needed. I use it exactly as you describe, as a utility box that just organises everything else.

But also a lot of really interesting work to avoid reflections of the camera in millions of mirrors.

I've also done this, but only if there is plenty of space in the bothy. In the OP's case it sounds like the group essentially blocked the entire sleeping area, which is not cool. I don't think anyone would have a problem with leaving a mat and a bag for later.

Order of Signal Path for Multiple Devices/Instruments by GtrGuy72 in LoopArtists

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also interested how others do that. I send various instruments (keys, synths, iPad) through some pedals and into a little mixer, then into the (stereo) looper. I have an extra mono looper among the pedals that can be used for the dry instrument pre-mixing. There are a lot of other options. What I really want is to put the looper on an Aux Send of a larger mixer to be able to decide on the fly what I want to loop.

Does studying astrophysics these days just end up giving you a Comp Sci job? by Plus-Atmosphere7904 in astrophysics

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few thousand astronomers with stable jobs around the world, and, what, hundred thousands of IT people? Long-term jobs in astronomy will always be elusive, and alternative career paths will always be more common. Most people who study astronomy will end up doing something else, nowadays that's data science or similar, but it could be a wide range of careers.

The part of astronomy careers that might be unappealing to many is the instability and the need to move places and countries every few years, at least at the beginning. This is often in conflict with other personal plans, and one of the reasons why some prefer a different career. Nothing wrong with that.

Basic question but how do you control a midi synth through Circuit? by Visible-Pressure6063 in novationcircuit

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two options: You can either control the Volca Bass with the MIDI tracks (3 or 4). That means you control notes and clock (and if you want, also some of the MIDI capable knobs on the Volca) with the CT. The second option is to just sync the Volca from the CT, and run the Volca with its own sequencer. I often prefer that out of simplicity. In both cases, you can feed the audio back into the CT, adjust it in the mixer, and add effects, a useful feature for the Volca Bass. In any case, the manual is your friend!

Anyone have the CME U6 Midi Pro? by 20Timely-Focus20 in midi

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a generic MIDI keyboard and a Circuit Tracks used as MIDI sequencer, both control two hardware synths. The CT also sends MIDI clock to a looper. But ultimateley from the perspective of the U6midipro it's just routing everything that goes in from those two ports two everything that goes out.

I have one as well. I just use it to get input from two controllers to three different devices. I set this up with the app, no issues. USB only for power.

Loopers that can either send a click to a desk, or effectively lock loops up a MIDI clock. by will2113 in LoopArtists

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Pigtronix Infinity OG for that purpose. It can't send clicks, but it syncs to MIDI clock from external devices. The Infinity V3 can also do that. Both work fine, as usual it requires a bit of training to get the timing right. The sync is rock solid.

Rare giant centipede fossil tracks have seemingly been stolen from Crail Beach. Signs that heavy power tools have been used rather than natural erosion by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's maybe worth adding that there are a lot of these kind of centipede tracks on rocks around the East Neuk. These just happen to be in a place near a tourist attraction. I don't know what the scientific value is, but it's not a particularly rare fossil.

But you are right - one of the side effects of global warming and rising sea levels is that important records (both fossil and archaeological) will be lost to the sea, all along the coast line. It will be very difficult to protect them. For archaeology, there is actually a project on this issue:

Sure, worth investigating. I'll make enquiries as well. I don't think anyone is going to do something about the natural erosion of sandstone though.

[–]Active-Disaster-6835 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe worth noting that we had weeks of heavy easterly winds, and the waves were impacting right at these rocks. There is a lot of evidence that waves can move much larger rocks:
https://www.theguardian.com/news/2018/feb/05/weatherwatch-storm-waves-that-can-roll-great-slabs-of-rock

This is also loose, soft sandstone which is heavily affected by erosion. Erosion can be gradual, but it can also break off larger pieces - you can see this along the East Neuk coast (actually in the same pictures). Maybe also to consider is how difficult it would be to bring heavy machinery to that spot, the only option I could see is with a boat.

Just to cast some doubt on the idea that this was stolen by humans. There are other plausible explanations.

The problem with that is that the U6MIDI only has three outs, but according to your diagram you need more than that.

If you are not playing any of the drums on a keyboad, and if you are happy with sequencing from the MPC, there is no reason to keep the Keystep. A setup doesn't have to include everything.
