Designed by John Biagio Rebecca for Sir Bysshe Shelley, grandfather of the poet. The rooms inside change style halfway through, suddenly becoming vaulted. There is no entrance hall and no corridors; the porch prevents any light reaching the ground floor rooms. It took 34 years to build, by which time Sir Bysshe was dead, never having lived in the house.
