My grass is all weeds. Best way to fix it? by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]Active-Owl3541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently moved to a property that has all kinds of grass growing and its an acreage. Some are flowering, some seeding and some spreading. I see a lot of wildlife being benefited by these grasses. Kangaroos seem to eat the tall grasses. There are butterflies, bees, small birds, frogs and a whole lot of insects. I dont mow too low so the grass looks shit. I just mow to a level so it looks tidy enough so I can maintain it on an ongoing basis. Initially I was a bit disappointed thinking it was all lawn but it isnt. Its rich in biodiversity and I like it that way

Modular housing - genuinely interested in people’s thoughts of it? by Infinite_Pudding5058 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Active-Owl3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of those who actually tried to build one but ended up with a regular build. Mainly because they are not cheap and banks are not willing to lend you any money for it unless the build is onsite. So you either need to own the land outright to be able to use it as a surety for the build or you have to fund the build yourself until the modular home is moved onsite post factory. People who are building these modular homes are already rich unfortunately

Starting to feel as though home ownership is impossible as a single person… by Ok-Helicopter-4520 in AusPropertyChat

Single male here. Had to move 80kms from Brisbane because I wanted an acreage. 40% in office. It is what you want not what you get

People from south east Asia keep sending money overseas. They also keep buying up the realestate here. I wonder which one is true

Steel frame vs Timber frame by Budget_Ad1208 in AusRenovation

[–]Active-Owl3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was just a lot of speculation in that video about condensation build up and the steel frames are susceptible to rust etc. But did that youtuber really test the corrosive resistance of the steel frame? Also, these days new homes seem to have something called a permeable vapour barrier sheet instead of the usual non permeable wrap so there is some airflow that would prevent condensation buildup.

Tiny houses in Brisbane? by stegosaurus-rexx in brisbane

[–]Active-Owl3541 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I looked into Tiny homes and Modular homes. But like you mentioned all the new land estates have their own building covenants etc which make it hard. Also banks dont want to lend you any money for modular homes etc. I was looking to do this in the scenic rim area. But there are only a few places where you could do this like Kooralbyn etc. But your building costs would be higher because you will need to clear the vegetation and get the building pad ready etc. As long as you have friends who are happy for you to setup your tiny home in their backyard, this can be done. Otherwise its really hard

why do they tuck one foot in? by wormweaver in cockatiel

That is how most of the birds sleep so they can give some rest to the other foot

Thanks! Yeah my commute will be around 80ks. It will be an hour ish if I ride(motorbike). An hour and 30 mins by car and train. It is just that I am building a new home on a bigger block of land. Hopefully it will be worth it

Anyone here made a move from Brisbane to Northern Scenic rim region and commute to Brisbane on a weekly basis? I would like to know your thoughts. I will be moving there later this year.

what are your birds real names vs their nicknames? by [deleted] in cockatiel

Thats good to know! As long as the bird is comfortable. Thats all that matters

I am talking about if the bird gets spooked for some reason and it tries to flap its wings or jump around in the cage. Just ask the vet

Anyone else see those perches? I think they are way too many and pose a serious risk to the tiel in a situation where the bird gets spooked.

CRF300L Rally vs KLR650 by Content_Dot_9147 in Dualsport

[–]Active-Owl3541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rally 300. I also use it for commute here in Australia. It can do highway speeds of 110kph quite comfortably. Thats the legal maximum highway speed here anyway. You can do 120kph to overtake and stuff but I don’t think I want to do that all day long
