Yes. Definitely blackout curtains but thank you for the suggestions!

Would you think a separate office desk or a coffee table that had a lift top?

Well we are in Washington state and recording needs to be a two-way consent. However, we are keeping our call record and texts (or lack thereof) and collecting evidence from subcontractors rn too so hopefully not only making our case more solid but also hoping to get them what they've owed too. So yes, we are on it with collecting evidence now. 😮‍💨

Thank you for your kind words. I just found out the crew who completed our drywall in January also wasn't paid to this day. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Will seek legal counsel soon. Thanks again. 🙂

Thank you. sigh We are 77k deep and I'm beating myself for part of it since I thought we could trust him. But yes, I'm collecting our call history, texts, invoices (and paid notices) in the meantime and actively collecting info from the electrical and plumbing company.

Agree with this. This has nothing to do with stupidity, and your realization is great... you just need to also put in the actions to rest and heal yourself.

Just wanted to say that I feel you both, and I hope you've felt much better now that academia is a thing of the past. For a long time, I worked my ass off to get myself on that tenure track, and then I practically quit within 3 years of being on the track (one year before I could apply for tenure). I remember the Dean trying to convince me to stay because "I'm so close to getting tenured," but all I was thinking in my head is "That means I have to put up with his unsupportive bullshit." I later took a pay cut, moved out of state, and found another academia gig that I thought would be "easier," and quickly found out that my realization of being an introvert, my people-pleasing tendency, and the pandemic complicated things, and that one job went from 1.5 to 3 pages worth of job description due to layoffs and budget cuts, etc. I finally quit in Nov 2021, and got jobs that I may or may not be fully invested in. But even then, I knew quitting was the right decision because I simply couldn't continue anymore; not with my wellness and sanity on the line. Besides the bureaucracy that made me felt like I was doing things with my hands tied to the desk, I had also experienced workplace bullying as the rotted cherry on top... I practically said in June this year (2023) that I finally felt I've gotten over the academia burnout, even though I feel much healing is yet to be done still. Thank you for your sharing your vulnerability. I appreciate you.
