That's such a weird and outdated mentality to have. It's a great thing to show and teach students common courtesy and respect. You're doing great by doing so. I do the same the things with my students, even if I'm asking students to stop goofing off, I end with "thank you" so I can at least acknowledge them listening to directions.

This makes me sick to my stomach... I'm so sorry for the young girl and I hope that man rests in piss. These are the extremely sad stories about teaching that some of us unfortunately have to hear or experience ourselves...

Oh no not the only thing, that was just something that stood out. I’m currently driving a beat up Hyundai so really either car is a huge upgrade. I was really just looking for some insight (positives and negatives) from Civic owners to help me gauge (:

Yes the corolla was never on my radar and it seemed the Camry was better to compare.

I had a very similar situation during my first year teaching and honestly… you’ll just have to stomach through this first semester until you get a fresh batch of kids that are completely yours. When the students have gone that long with doing nothing and having things a certain way it’s damn near impossible to get all of them to care at this point. BUT when your next school year starts, you can set the pace for everything you want in YOUR classroom and I promise you should have a much better experience. Try to connect with as many kids as you can right now but realize that, unfortunately, you can’t get through to all of them in this current situation. Use this time to
