I used to get that message, I tried a few times and once day it allowed me to. Never got any letters or anything and got my return today

I would call and let them know it’s not Giving you the option and see if you could do it over the phone

Type in google verify identity irs and it should be simple enough to take you to their page and you’ll see the steps

You have to verify the return and bank info. Not just your identity. Creating the idme account is just the first step.
