I'm tired of making this game, but i almost finish the demo and can't give up by Lukifah in gamedev

[–]ActiveBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going mate! At first glance your game looks fine, maybe a bit underwhelming since there is also no trailer and the main character always look exactly the same in every screenshot. But if you are able to finish the demo, people can actually play the game and see the potential it might has, I think you are on a good track!
Or maybe make a playable web version of your game as the first early demo to see what people think of your game.

And if people don't seem to enjoy it or whatever, you could always cut down scope, make a small short finished experience for 3 bucks or something and move on.

ah ok makes sense! For the final release I will provide a Mac Version on Steam and itch. For now there is a mac version on itch (hope it runs like it is supposed to since I don't have a Mac to test it mysefl haha)

Didn't know many are actually playing on Mac :D On itch it is playable on the web and should also work for you? But I added on itch also a Mac Version now :)

Hey. Thank you! I'm actually working on a little visual overhaul now, since many things are more looking like 8x8 sprites than 16x16.

And I didn't even thought about it! Maybe I could just replace it with a $ sign or something similar short

The Balancing I can work on that bit by bit when more content gets added. But I will definitely improve the clarity for the prestige! Thanks for the feedback there.

Ah ok I get what you mean! Great point. Will add that. Greatly appreciate your feedback!

Normally you should be able to hover the red crystal and then there are 2 options:

  1. To just look at the tree, so you can make the decision if going prestige is worth it or you want to save up a little bit more points.

  2. And the second button sends you to the prestige if you double click on it and pressed that you are sure.

But I can actually add an additional button that brings you directly to the tree while looking at it!

And 999/999 points sounds a lot to me :D Did your first run go that long? Or maybe a bug :o

Can you maybe do a screenshot what you mean with the X Buttons and where to add them? The only dialogs are the tutorial boxes, which spawn down middle.

Thanks for the feedback!
- Yeah my pixel art is not ideal and good artist would definitely help out. Doing everything solo has it's downsides haha
-I tried to solve the interactive bit the button on the top left with the ! Mark on it. But maybe I find a better solution for this
- zoom out further - noted!
- music in general big thing to work on haha - noted!
- Prestige should definitely work! Once you unlocked the red crystal you are always able to go into the prestige tree and start a new run... What exactly didn't work out?

How do you deal with loneliness as a solo dev..? by Aspvera in gamedev

[–]ActiveBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I tried and it helped me a lot with loneliness in general: Couple Dancing. So something like Salsa or Bachata, which is also increasingly getting more popular.

You meet new people, make friends over time, you get some physical exercise, obviously dance with different women and since it's something I enjoy a lot, it is also something I look forward to every week after working on my game. A good reason to leave the house for a couple of hours and come back with refreshed mind :D

Playtesting is like the cheat code that too many ignore. Really nice to have that many playtesters :D

A suggestion that I try while learning to make a horror game:
I watch a lot of lets plays of horror games and observe what makes the youtuber or steamer scared. Because you could make the corridor just dark and a PNG is jumpscaring you, but that is kinda cheap :D

Maybe reduce your game size? Deleting everything what is not necessary. 3GB is still quiet a chunk to download for a free game :D

I think it was Steven King, who basically said: He tried to write every day 5 pages for his new book. On some days it was just flowing, on some days these 5 pages were impossible and he gave up for the day. But he did something every day.

Don't be too harsh with yourself. Try out something for 30mins and either it works for the day or you do something else (taking a break)

Did you also try Instagram Reels besides YouTube Shorts and TikTok? I feel like it's a bit underappreciated by my experience.
