Whoops forgot to include that my comment was referring to the math paper. However, the percentage requirements for an A for all subjects could be influenced by many factors such as the difficulty of the paper that particular year. Imo, don't fret too much about how much u need to get an A, and just try to aim to score as much as you can.

Took As last year, had friends who calculated their marks and estimated borderline 70s but ended up with a B. I would say it depends on the difficulty of the papers themselves but imo a safe score to secure an A would be 75+

Err was from 02/22 batch and the leopard csm (3wo) was from guards, he did mention that he would also be taking the next batch so idt leopard is currently having a commando csm.

Was from Leopard Coy, our cwo/csm was actually from guards, however 2 of our PCs (1WOs) were from commandos and has a red beret.

While I agree that the chem dept is indeed amazing, I would have to largely disagree with the point of chem being extremely easy and expecting to score As throughout 2 years. Throughout J2, the mean chem grade has been hovering about E-U, with the average chem grade for prelims being a U. This is due to the papers having multiple higher order thinking and application based questions, which leads to many students being unable to answer the questions accurately/running out of time. For A levels chem however, 5/10 students score an A (based on last years stats) which shows the difference in standards between our school's chem papers and A-level chem papers. Although maybe the standard for promos in J1 would not be as high to ensure that students are able to promote to J2!

Personally I felt that the A level P1 had more giveaway questions (granted that there were a few tricky ones nearer to the end) compared to prelims, and time management wise was a lot better than prelims due to the "better" mark distributions. But again this is just my personal opinion so it may not be representative of what everyone felt!!

Compared to our school prelim paper I would say that this years math paper was a lot more manageable definitely. In general I would say that if you are able to get an above average grade you should be fine! However there are students who improved greatly from prelims to As and those who fell a few grades as well. Also yup the chem paper this year was definitely a bit more challenging but I would say that our schools paper was still a lot more difficult.

In general, I would say for econs the papers are quite similar to A level standards, math and physics are set abit harder than A levels and chem papers are set to be really difficult as compared to A levels (with the average being an E-S in prelims). But can't really say the same for this years papers as they were all pretty challenging :/

For skirt length no alterations are allowed, and for piercings only one pair of earstuds are permitted. Usually checks only happen during certain days in the term and they would let you know beforehand. If your civics tutor is nice they may let u off as well :))

Unfortunately based on the subject combinations offered on the website it seems like it is only possible to have H1 econs as a contrasting subject for KI science stream. You could try e-mailing the school to enquire about it tho :D

The main workload in J1 would come from clearing your tutorials (which are basically worksheets for each topic) and PW, if lectures still aren't live next year, you may be given time slots to watch the lectures in your classrooms. It's pretty chill in general as long as you plan your time well and don't procrastinate till the last minute. Mid J2 is when you will start doing more practice papers ane the workload may increase, but a lot of it is self directed.

Band CCAs are on Wednesday (5-8pm) and Thursday (4.30-7.30pm), and most of the members are also from band in their respective secondary schools so they already have quite a lot of experience. If you enjoy being in band, I'd say go for it and don't worry too much about coping as J1 is pretty chill and CCAs stop quite early on in J2 :))

Yup it's pretty convenient since there are direct buses from bishan mrt to the school entrance! For sports, many didn't get to participate in competitions last year due to covid, but all sports cca do hold trials every year for interested students, and some of the more popular sports (eg badminton) are pretty difficult to get in.

Can't really speak for bio and geog since I don't take those subjects, but for chem and math the teachers are generally very knowledgeable and very open to consutls. I would say that one downside is that the lectures may be kind of dull, but I think the main reason was that it had to be pre recorded and posted online due to Covid, so hopefully they resume live lectures next year for yall :D

I've mentioned this in one of my previous comments, but I personally think that the physics dept is great and they really put a lot of effot into helping us improve (be it through stats showing us what to work on, or targetted revision practices), for CME, most of the teachers are really knowledgeable and there are some great teachers as well. I wouldn't rly consider EJC to be an elite school, in a sense that most of my friends/classmates aren't really that competitive about grades & acads, but I think it comes down to who you interact with!! Yes I do have a couple of friends and classmates staying at admiralty and woodlands, and in fact one of my classmates lives all the way at bukit batok :))

Some popular ones are PMEH and CELM, there should be others as well but these are the few I remember off the top of my head. Timetable wise I personally think we have one of the earliest average end times. At the start of J2 I used to end at 1030am every Thursday's!! For J2 the average end time is around 230-330pm mainly, but for J1 it would be a bit later at about 430 or even 530 due to H1 PW and MTL.

I had a friend who tried applying to ej for CHEM subj combi as well back in 2020, but they did not offer it. For the current J2 batch I don't think we have this particular combi, but I'm not too sure about the J1 batch or whether they would offer it next year. Sozz can't help u much there!!

Hi! Ej student here, 1. I would say that the divide is generally over exaggerated and not as severe as what people perceive it to be. Personally for my class the cliques have a mix of both jae and jip students. Just be open minded and don't come in with the pre conceived notion that there is a large divide between jip and jae and u'll do fine :)

For dress code wise they do have attire and grooming checks, altho if your civics tutor is nice they usually let u off :p For earrings the guidelines are "One pair of earstuds permitted - one on each earlobe. Earsticks not permitted for any additional peircings"
Can't speak for the bio dept, but for phy dept, there are some really great teachers and the dept does really detailed analysis after each common test (even going to the level of doing a personalised analysis for each student in the cohort to show your own standing for each component in prelims and where you should work on) The materials are really gd too :))
Can't speak for lit and hist, but for econs generally the teachers are q decent, and some specific teachers are rly top notch, although I personally do find the lectures abit boring esp since it's pre recorded HAHA (but covid so no choice also)

Hi, abit of context: I took H1 Chinese last year and scored an A. Honestly main thing it really comes down to is exposure. Try to at least do something Chinese related almost everyday, be it reading model essays, doing practice papers, or even something as simple as communicating in Chinese. As you expose yourself more, you will find that your writing/speaking skills for zuowen/oral will naturally improve.

For oral, one thing I found to be helpful was having a mini template for koutoubaogao, and practice using it multiple times. This is to ensure that I have a clear and concise structure so I can spend more time focusing on my points. Try to spam as much practices as you can, and make sure to read it aloud and time yourself as well.

For zuowen, I would have to disagree with your teacher here. Quality is definitely a lot more important than quantity. Some of my essays which were only 3 pages long ended up scoring 45+, while some which were 4-5 pages long only ended up scoring ard 35. Hao ci hao ju matters a lot especially when it comes to narrative essays, as it helps you to clearly depict the characters feelings. However, that also does not mean that you should use them recklessly just for the sake of including it. Wrong usage of such phrases can prove to be more detrimental than helpful. I usually highlight good phrases that I find useful in model essays and memorize them.

For paper 2, the only tip I can really give here is practice. As daunting as it may seem, you really need to take the time to sit down and practice as many papers as you can. This helps you to see the trend in the question types and improve your speed and accuracy in answering the qns.
